Hello...
How much important are boxes?
Do you search for boxed games? Do you pay a big difference for boxed games? Do you hate loose carts?
Tell me all about your relationship with boxes! :D
Regards!

I love my "boxen" quite much :)
Hello there, interesting question! If it's a game I want to play, I don't mind loose carts (and if you have a cabinet like a NES or N64 cartridge storage module, it works better that way). On the other hand, I really hate not having a complete copy of a title--Especially if I paid for a complete copy (that would be my loose copy of Contra courtesy of my favorite Gamechoice.com.hk).

I have a strange way about how I feel on boxes. When it comes to N64, Jaguar and Neo Geo, I MUST HAVE BOXES, because my whole collection with these systems include the boxes, so I don't want to disrupt the harmony of having a totally boxed collection. Everything else, meh, I'll take the box if its there, but its not required, its just a bonus.

For any game made by Sega, or for a Sega system, boxes are a necessity.
Nintendo, on the other hand, I could care less. I actually prefer NES games to be loose.

I agree with Raccoon here. For SMS and Genesis I must have the box. They were usually saved so I will pass up a loose cart and be reasonably sure I will find a boxed one down the road. N64 I prefer boxed since I am only missing around 20 boxes having them all - of course I only have half the games but slowly...slowly I will fill in the holes :) As for 2600, NES etc I will take the box if I need the cart but I definitely do not hunt down the boxes.

When I started collecting, I did not care much for boxes because they took up so much space. Times have changed and I am actually going after complete collections in the box. I started out with the 32X and got each one in the box complete. I have now pursued the N64 with missing about 60 boxes and about 150 games for the set complete. For me, if I start collecting a game series out of the box, it does not matter. If I find a whole bunch in the boxes of one particular system, then I will "keep the flow" and get the rest. My biggest challenge right now is regular NES...I am missing only 27 for my set, and I now have over 400 complete in the box. If I can get 400, then I can get the rest boxed. The problem is that I have no place to put them up....space is always an issue with boxes!

I only want them for snes and n64.
For Nes i don't need them cause they look good enough without boxes (cause the name of the game is on top of labels else well)

I like to have boxes with everything. I used to buy loose NES stuff, but I remember the boxes for a lot of the games and wish I had them, so I've been trying to upgrade my collection so everything is boxed

Here are mr preferences:
- Any cd game not only has to have a case, it has to be complete.
- Pre crash games can ba loose
- NES and up cart games should have a box. Instructions are a bonus.
Exceptions are made based on price and rarity.

Boxes are IMPORTANT for me, i usually pay different for boxed and non-boxed games. I donīt hate loose carts, also, if there is a rare cart, i will buy it loose, but iīm usually very histeric  with boxes and manuals...I WANT COMPLETE GAMES!!!

I like boxes (how they look) but they're no big deal to me. Most of my carts for the 2600 are loose. I found that boxed are generally to expensive. But I will not buy a non boxed GC, PS2, or X-box game.

Games for any CD or DVD based system absolutely, positively must be complete.
Games for Genesis should be complete, as they have nice boxes, but it doesn't always apply.
I used to try to get the boxes for other systems, but as they are becoming harder to find, I now settle for loose, although preferrably with instructions.

If the box is their great, if not I could care less. The game is more important to me than the completist attitude of others. Then again I am not really a collector, I just like to play the games on the system that they were suppose to be on, mods just don't cut it.

Boxed games are great because the value of the game increases tremendously and they look cool. Only downside is that they take up a lot more room than just a cart! :D
If it is NES, I really want the boxes. I'll buy any NES game locally (even if I already have it), if it is boxed. However, I don't really care about my boxes for the other systems. If I have it, good for me. If not, oh well.

I used to not care about boxes at all, but then again I also was a youngin' when I started collecting - so I have virtually no boxes at all, except for my favorites like FF6 and Metroid...I have a few N64 boxes, but quite a few missing as well. More recently, I've decided that I MUST have the boxes. It's not worth anything to me otherwise. If i can't get the boxes there is no difference to me and emulation or even owning a burned copy. It just doesn't feel like the whole game, you're missing something (well, duh, but you know what I mean). I see tons of great GBA games going on Ebay for "teh cheap" but I won't touch then b/c 90% of them are without box/instruction manual etc.

If the game originally came in a plastic case/jewel case then I only purchase ones that come with it.

When i get a new game I put the box away so it doesn't get damaged. When I am buying used games I'll prefer to have the box but its not needed. Unless its a CD game I'll only buy CD Rom Games if the have the Jewel Case.

I usually prefer collecting games that are complete, but if its a game that I have been looking for but it is loose, I still would buy it anyway. :D

I didn't care about the boxes too much when I first started collecting... once I got a decent collection built up though and I started looking at other collections I felt mine was missing something. Of course that something was boxes. It looks much nicer having all the games in boxes anyway. ;-)

I prefer to have boxes and manuals myself, especially for Genesis and SNES games. NES I'm not really as worried about, and I don't collect any pre-crash games. For SMS I like to have boxes cause the cart labels suck :D Basically any post-crash cart games I prefer to have boxes, but won't REALLY make a big deal unless it's an import...then it HAS to have it! For CD games, it must be complete...period. I won't collect incomplete CD based games.

See, what pisses me off is recently at gamestop I picked up Um Jammer Lammy(PSX) and Maken X(DC) both in cases with instructions. Didn't even notice till i had left the store that the backing slip (you know, where the information about the game is written.....the back of the cd case) was missing. So, my CD based collection now has two incomplete games, and that really pisses me off.
Of course, I do have a few incomplete Saturn games too, but I got them for free from someone on these boards (Chunky, maybe?), so I'm sure as hell not complaining. :D

Yea I would never buy a disc game without a case. I turned down a REALLY good deal on one of teh Bond games for PS2 cause it didn't have a case.

For me, it depends on the console - here is my rationale:
Nintendo 64: Must be complete.
Atari Lynx: Must be complete.
Game Boy/Game Boy Color: Must be complete.
Sega Game Gear: Any condition.
Game Boy Advance: Must be complete.
Atari 2600: Any condition.
Nintendo GameCube: Must be complete.
Super NES: Any condition.
Nintendo 64 (NTSC): Any condition.
NES: Any condition.
PSX/PS2: Must be complete.
Sega Dreamcast: Must be complete.
Sega Saturn: Must have case.
Sega Mega Drive: Any condition.
Sega Mega CD: Must be complete.
Sega Master System: Any condition.
Microsoft Xbox: Must be complete.

Older games, I need not the box for. I almost always have to suffice for NES games, just the games. No box, no manual, just the game. If it works, then I'm keeping it.
As for more recent games, I want them as mint as possible. If there isn't a manual, then I'll refuse it, unless I desperately want the game. CD's are obviously not as durable as cartridges, so I'd prefer it if a CD-based game comes brand new.

I would rather buy a game with a box than without. If there are some games for cheap with boxes, I will usually buy them. I have a lot of loose carts, but I wish I had more boxes.
