http://home.comcast.net/~edoscuro/deleted_links.txt (and links that are not yet deleted)
and I've got a text file of links to add, somewhere

Actually got some work done on it (imagine that!) Anyhow, couple things to let you know about.

I have deleted all the dead links through Atari Systems--but no further than Atari Systems, and I have done nothing else. I haven't moved or deleted any other sites except for one entry which was in 3DO.

I feel sites need to be approved, and if there is a question about their relevance I could post a topic to see if people think we should add a site.

There are way too many personal collection sites (link directly to their For Sale list, of course), and a Classifieds page the links page is not. I am going to see about putting up a requirement that sites have relevant information and that sites deemed not worthy will be deleted. The same goes for commercial sites. Some of them have been quite blatant in self-promoting; one put "Atari - World of Atari" in order to ensure it wouldn't be sorted to the bottom of the list. You can still see all these entries as I haven't moved or deleted any yet.

I feel that the following types of sites should be removed in their entirety:

**Emulation/ROM pages (exceptions to be made if they have important information about systems, i.e. map of the memory addresses, or have other information outside Emulation)

**Online games pages (i.e. http://www.arcadevillage.com/, and Outwar, obviously)

**Stores (really now)

**Sites that still have their 9/11/01 banner up (http://www.smashtv.net/) or are obviously dead

We really should delete the online stores. It was a cool idea to allow them on, but ultimately it's proven to be a disservice to the links page.

What we should have more of:

Links to other semi-professionally done sites with ACTIVITY.

The only reason I have not been deleting sites with abandon is that I believe it would be a mistake. I've even got a list of all the dead links deleted so far, and will see about putting those somewhere in the future as well.

Finally, I feel the Bravenet Links Page format is a bit...ugly. We really should be able to have a page with categories and links to pages about specific topics...the current system is ineffective and ugly. However, that's another story for another time.

Looking good, senor Oscuro!

Keep up the great work. It's already 100 times better than it was before you took over.

Now go for 1000!

I'm gonna go blind!

Updates? Well, take a look. I've adopted a "no-stores (unless we know you personally or there's something really special about the site) policy."

A couple sites that make Atari stuff, for example, that you can't find anywhere else, sites that have been been given awards by Digital Press, The Goat Store, the guy who makes Vectrex games...these sites are still on the page.

Also tagging foreign-language and bilingual websites by the language they use in their hyperlink.

So far I've ploughed through all of Classic Gaming (General).

Lots of dead links weeded out and lots of links fixed.

If your site is gone, please let me know!

However -- I cannot promise it will be put back up, because I've adopted some guidelines of relevance and having a nice design is also a good thing. Still, let me know if I pulled yours off and I'll see what we can do.

Happy Turkey Day, folks!
