I tried playing the N64 Zelda, gave it a few days of gamming and put it down without any interest and never played another 3D Zelda...I think Nintendo should bring it back to its roots.
The Legend of Zelda was easily the best Zelda game and my personal fav consol game of all time, and Im sure im not alone in thinking this.
Has there ever been talk or rumours or anything about them releasing a game true to the heritage of the series? These 3d ones are lousy in comparison :(

Well there is Tetra's trackers and the four swords due sometime in the non too distant future but if you're wondering why they don't make the series in 2D anymore just watch the flack N gets for those games just because they're 2D.
It's a another fine flaw in the gaming consumer market, 2D doesn't sell and 90% of gamers will dismiss anything running in 2D as an outdated ripoff.
Sorry, the market sucks and the consumers are to blame, you are the minority.. take it as a compliment, at least you're not a trend gamer :P

Nintendo should be praised for their handling of the 3D Zelda titles, especially the N64 ones. Still, if you didn't like them...nothing much I can do about that. I think Nintendo is trying to create 3D and 2D titles, which is a smart way of doing things (re: Metroid Zero Mission). You please the less trendy gamer who cares about gameplay, and also have something for the mass market. Doesn't look like a bad deal to me.
Going totally 2D...not a viable option.

Well, the Game Boy Zelda games are still in 2d...you could always get yourself a game boy player and pick up the oracle miniseries of zelda games :P
But I wouldn't expect too much in way of 2d on console.

Only problem with the Oracle games...they're really Capcom titles, and while I haven't played them I can say that the music is atrocious compared to Link's Awakening. Still better than some stuff, though.

Oracle of Ages and Seasons were fun.. but they were missing 'something' I couldn't really place my finger on. Maybe they just seemed a little to linear? I liked it.. but to me even the first Gameboy Zelda ends up a better game than the Oracle series.

I think that Stephen would have posted something like,
I once knew this person named Zelda, but she was not 3d. I have not seen her since then.
But on topic: Nintendo makes the Zeldas 3d now because people are obsessed with 3d stuff.

Huh ha ha? Actually I do really like the 3D Zeldas. Metroid now should be 2D. I liked Fusion better then Prime.

Look at this person's last posts. More annoying and less insightful than Steven, yes, but the style's virtually the same.

I've been happy with all of the zelda games. And I think they did an exceptional job of bringing the series to 3-D. No matter which one I play, its still feels like zelda and the gameplay is never lacking. I don't mind 3-D games if they're done correctly.

Regarding the criticism of the Oracle series: I like them better than Link's Awakening (which was as linear as the Oracle series, IMO). Let's say that I almost hope that Capcom will continue to make Zelda games for Nintendo...
