Since the SGA was fired at my store a while ago I have been working 6 day weeks so I am only level 8 even though I've been playing since release.
Anyone else playing?
My main character is white mage Fable in Kajuta windhurst. Brian has a lot of servers going since he figured out how to make money (pm or see player auctions if you need some).
I'm not quite to group level, but how do people group in this game? It seems nobody really talks and people are always stealing monsters when they see me running towards them (even if they were fighting something else at the time)

Stealing monsters=kill stealing, a form of griefing.

Have'nt had a lot of time to play right now -- should change in a couple weeks when I graduate school -- but I have a L8 Humme Warrior in Bismark and my hobe base is Bastok. Name of Fendor. Found maybe about four or five people in the world who are friendly, but no one in this world that I know off. :)

If you role call again after christmas chances are I'll be able to add my name. Not only do I not have time right now, but I really don't think my graphics card could handle it. Did someone mention there was some sort of benchmark or test to run on your PC to see how it would handle FFXI?

Yeah I've been playing a Tarutaru Red mage named Stamp since the game came out. There are alot of groups that are easy to find.
You have a few things against you at the moment.
1. There seems to be more people playing in Sanandoria than Windurst. I've noticed that there seem to be more people playing in the Sanandoria region. That makes it easier to find groups there. When you get 15 you'll want to go to Valk Dunes (by taking the ship to Selbina) The Quest to get your Sub class is also there and is easier to do than the Mhuara Quest to get the subclass.
2. alot of people will solo to level 9-10 that makes it harder for you to find a group. Your a white mage thats a class thats hard to solo for very long. Once you get in your teens lots of people will want you to hunt Dhamels in Tahrongi Canyon once you get to your high teens you'll be at the point were alot of people will need a White Mage for a group.
Alot of newbs Kill steal don't worry too much abought that the'll either learn to behave or the'll be shunned in the higher levels when they get a bad rep for playing like that.
But just a thought abouth this FFXI makes it pretty hard to kill steal since once you hit something (with a spell or weapon) no one else can attack it. When EQ was released Wizards could Kill Steal just by nukeing the moster as a groups attacked it.
Most MMORPG Etiquette seems to be that unless the mob is a Static Spawn that a group is camping the first person to hit the monster is the one to have the right to it. Also that person might not have seen you and might have been running to the mob to attack it just like you were. Unless that person keeps doing to you it was probably not intentional. This is common in a new game when there are tons of people flooding the newbie zones looking for stuff to kill. I noticed this on release day and just moved to a different area that was not as crouded and that fixed it.

I'm a lvl 10 Red Mage Mithra by the name of Saiyumi on Phoenix server. Mythra are nasty red mages having some pretty snazzy evasion for when they *gulp* tank, and some neat red mage only spells I'm starting to dabble in.
I've already become an auction house whore, much like in real life with eBay. Money grabbing addiction abounds! Hooray capitalism!

Yeah I've made some sweet nice Gil at the auction house as well. It seems to be the best way to get coin in the game. Pretty cool way of keeping the Game economics going. It sure blows EQ's bazzar away.

Oobgarm, Level 5 thief on Bahamut.
Haven't played as much as many others, but I'm plugging along.

I wish they had made Mithra males as well. I hate playing as the regular old Huume or Elvaan, the tarutaru don't really interest me, and I'm not going to be the weird geeky guy that role plays a female. (No offense, AdamG. I don't consider you to be the weird geeky guy.)

Aww, that's really sweet, but in all honesty I am that weird geeky guy that always roleplays women. I have reasons and fortunatly for y'all it's not to entrap males into some weird sex cult orgy thing.
However if any women would like to start a weird sex cult orgy thing, let me know ;)
However much I roleplay women, the choice of Mythra was purely for evasion. It's nice to not get hit about 40% of the time. Especially as a Red Mage when I have to sometimes tank for myself.
LEVEL UP, OHHHH TAG~!

I was gonna say "if he didn't mean Adam, he must've meant me" until...no, Roleplay women? I'd use a female in offline RPGs, sure. In MMORPGs, though, I get into character enough that I have to play as a male character. I wouldn't be comfortable with a gender disconnect between my character onscreen and myself in real life.
You tell me...how does one go about doing that in an online setting?
(And rofl @ folks who has a character working as a cantina or spaceport bar stripper somewheres in Star Wars Galaxies...for that matter, at the whole blasted musician class. Oh boy, that's an MMORPG concept that could use a little tweaking.)

I knew there was no way to put what i was trying to say correctly. However, when I was playing EQ, there were two types of males who roleplayed females.
a.) The one's that did it correctly. ex. Candari, from Ontario who I used to group with 5 or so times a week. Didn't know for like a month that she wasn't a woman in RL. Acted exactly how I would have expected an enchantress to act.
b.) The other 80% of them. ex. "Wow, you really took out those two monsters really well, let's go have sex!", "I love adventuring with a big strong man tee hee", "Training in BB makes me wet."
Hope I made myself a little better understood.
EDIT: By the way, all the quotes from part b are real, from within the first six months of the original EQs release. I didn't make any of those up.

Yeah, and I hope I managed to avoid pissing off anybody ;)
I'm really only concerned with the types, well, take your examples from B. Ugh.

My biggest problem is that there is never a White Mage with Cure or Life around when I NEED one! LOL

Yeah, these people need to be punched in the face. I don't care if they really are women or not, a MMO is not a cybersex haven.

I do know some men will play women so the'll get free stuff. Yes there are people who will give freebies or help to somone if they think that person is a female x_x

I had to quit playing it because of it's awful UI and controls. I thought the game was cool otherwise but I would rather play the GAME instead of the UI. Anyone play DAoC or EQ?
