It's a very good system and all, but why are the sprites in most games only 3 colors?

I've -heard- the three color limitation was used so that the carts would be backward compatible and run on the NGP (original model displayed only black and white). However a few games like Sonic and Cotton have a normal coloration. It bothered me to no end when I first got the system -- it felt as if I was looking at a half finsihed image in a coloring book -- but now I dig it. For some reason it really vibes with the SD look of many of the fighting games...

...and if you bad mouth my girl Athena for only sporting 3 colors, we have beef ;)

In a recent play of MOTM, Athena just kept wasting my ass. I was on "Gamer" difficulty, however... x_x

I really need to get one someday. In fact, I think I will. Can an NGPC be found in your local EB or Best Buy?

Yes, you can get a NGPC bundle, the system and 6 games for $80 at EB or $70 from Gamestop's website. Some Gamestops are starting to get them in and I'm trying desperatly to make my store one of those.

If you look around on the internet, you can find that bundle for $60. I hafve yet to buy one... I have a B+W one from CGE that I traded for Earthbound.

My EB has some... In fact when I asked if hey had a copy of Metal Slug X, the guy pulled out the NGPC with the games....

oh well... we have em here.

Man, your girl be HOT. Not so hot in the NGPC version, but the console and arcade games, she be FINE.

...almost Nakaruru fine. ;)

I finally saw the NGPC bundle at my local Funco, and I about creamed myself. I told everyone that would listen to me that it was the best handheld system you could buy, and that the games and system are WELL worth the cash (as I remember paying that much for the system itself and a single game). I'm probably gonna buy it too, as it's got three games in that bundle I haven't got yet. :D

Well, I can't seem to avoid replying to any thread where the NGPC is mentioned. I was the recipient of Querjek's b&w NGP and it's a cool addition to the 2 colors I have (one US and one JP). I'm not sure as to why the fighters (and slugs) all had 3 color sprites, but as Jay stated, some games had a better palette (Cotton being my favorite and most memorable). Some characters actually look pretty damn good with just the 3 colors (Zangief looks pretty frigg'n cool that way).

Yeah, the only time King was on the NGPC was Gals Fighters and in the CFC games. However I have other SNK fighters I like, thank you for the link!

King would have been just perfect in MOTM. She also should have been in King of Fighters 2002... come on, SNK! King rules! You're starting to neglect her almost as much as you are Andy Bogard! :roll:

I think I'm going to buy another NGPC and get it modded for my lil cousin as an Xmas gift. Whenever she'd come to my house she wanted to play with my "gameboy" but didnt like it because she couldnt see the screen...she's accustomed to her GBA. But when she saw my unit modded with the Afterburner, she couldnt keep her mits off of Gals Fighters. "The girls are funny!"

As much as I'd like to think that, according to the storyline she's in love with Ryo from Art of Fighting. In fact, in '97 and '98 if King and Ryo start out a match then Ryo starts as normal but King has to turn around and fan herself to remove her blush.
