Whoa... I just experienced VG euphoria. :eek 2: :eek 2: :eek 2:

Last night, I went to a market. It's a pretty big market where everyone gets to sell all their crap. That's besides the point. The point is that this market has a f**king excellent arcade. Let me try to recall what I saw there... The Simpsons, Zombie Raid, Operation Wolf, Time Travellers, House of the Dead, Outrun... oh, man. I really wanted to play Outrun, but I was short on time, and I could only play one game. I would have opted for Outrun, but I was just a slight bit more interested in the machine just next to it...

A Neo Geo. Yeah, an MVS cabinet. The game inside... was... you're not going to believe this...

SAMURAI SHODOWN V

I nearly died right on the spot there. I never thought I'd ever see a Neo Geo in the arcades ever again, much less one with f**king SSV as the game! I had to play it, and I went with my main man, good ol' Genjuro. The control scheme was a bit altered, but I adapted quickly to the changes here and there, and I managed to waste four opponents on one quarter. I lost to Sanzaka, the mid-boss with the big hammer. That's when I had to go. But mark my words... I am returning to that market someday... someday...

Needless to say, I'm really f**king excited.

Sankuro the hammer man is a badass mini boss...I like how he has his buddies attack you, and his one move where he just pulls out a gun and shoots LOL

Supposedly there's a PS2 release of it next June, but its good to hear that the game is getting around. In the next couple weeks a site is getting started up for SamSho strats and tactics, as well as machine locations. You better add that one in when its up and running.

SSV is a pretty fine fighter, isnt it? I played with my long time warrior Galford and breezed through the computer opponents....the difficlulty seemed to be pretty low, cuz usually SS games arent ones I totally dominate. But yeah that midboss with the hammers is a PAIN IN THE ASS. Not to mention that chick with the arrows. I cant wait for the home release, it'll probablly be the first NEO game I buy new 8-)

PS-- I've YET to see Enlightenment mode. *sigh*

Chick with the arrows? I can give you a few tips, but they're mostly for human opponents...

Basically to beat Mina, you want to get in, hit her a couple times, and sit back and turtle. This is because she does crap for chip damage with her specials, can't chip with her arrows, and can barely guard break you. Now, to get in, you basically want to block her arrows, and walk in. If she throws the real low arrow, just do the forward+D hop over it. Once you're close in, chances are she'll try and escape with her "leap across the screen" move. Get her with an air attack or dragon punch move, do your damage, and when she gets away, you've got it in the bag.

She's a real pain until you get the strategy down, but once you do, she's a simple fight.

I've not personally seen enlightenment mode, but basically you won't want to use it until the last round. Using it in round 2, if you lose the first one, can be bad news, since then you've got less choices to counter their enlightenment. The only choices you've got to deal with enlightenment consist of a rage explosion, baiting it and hitting them out with a really quick move, or counter enlightening, which evens the fight back out. It's nasty stuff, if you get caught in it, so you have to play really carefully once your opponent is ready to enter it. Think going against V-ism in SFA3 and you've got an idea.

Sweet, you got to play the best game of the year. :)

Yea, Sankuro is hilarious and can be tough as hell too. Unless you're Yoshitora, then you can just pressure him to hell.

The 2nd midboss, Yumeji, is tough as hell too. She transforms into other characters and does certain specials, and usually times it perfectly too. She also has a multi hit attack like Ukyo's but it hits 33 times.

And the last boss is the bitch of them all, Gaoh. After you win one round, he transforms into an unstoppable beast. When I say unstoppable, I mean you cannot damage him when he's transformed. You have to evade and wait until he's back to normal.

I doubt it, since the owner paid at least $300 for SS5, unless it was a boot.

Little known fact:If you connect with all 6 of yoshitora's specials in a match against an opponent, you can do his 7th uber-powerful special, aka, swing the hugeass sword and launch a hugeass projectile. You want help on bosses, you try and land those specials first round or so, because you will own the world with that 7th one.

I want to see Poppy. I hear guys are using her up at the arcade, and seriously-its a dog. That's awesome. Even though she can't block or anything, thats just too goofy to pass up.

I must buy the game that makes the neo greater, probably after christmas.

Yea, it's pretty much a 2nd super. Another thing, you can't let his rage meter fill up either if you want to do that move. Not 100% on that, but that's what I heard.

Poppy is awesome, her super does about 60% damage.

Poppy's a she? Interesting...

Anyway, I have GOT to go back to that market. If I can't reach NAVA next weekend, then I'll compensate by going back there and getting genocidial with my main man, Genjuro.

Yoshitora really looks cool, with his seven swords and all... is he a beginner, intermediate, or advanced character? I'd say he looks at least intermediate for some reason...

Anyone have any screenshots of the three bosses? I'd especially like to see Gaoh in beast form. I imagine that he's ultra-cheap, as is the SNK last boss tradition?

I'm afraid that I'm not getting this game for the NG anytime soon, but I will at least get it on the PS2. This and SvC Chaos. Although I haven't played SvC, I have a hunch that it kicks less ass than SSV.

It is truly an honor to have kicked ass on a Neo Geo machine. I never thought I'd see the day... actually, I'm still young. There's loads of time to travel the world in search of arcade cabinets. :)

Kickass! I had one those nights last night too (see my new topic)

Yoshitora doesn't seem to hard to pick up. The one girl at the arcade, who's played Nakoruru since the first game, accidentally picked him, and was getting a pretty good winstreak with him. His AB slash is really good, and at least 4 of his specials (outside of number 7) are pretty damn useful.

Your hunch would be dead on. Chaos was cool the first day or so, just seeing Cap's characters on the NEO hardware (and seeing a version of Balrog that looked like he could kick someone's ass) but whenever I go to the arcade, I hit SSV. May get the PS2 version if I can get it for cheap.

Yoshitora is pretty much a beginner character, who is deadly in the hands of a better player. His hard slash hits 5 times (4 times up close) and his medium slash can hit 2-3 times depending how close you are, and can easily be comboed into the dp move, the dash slash, or even the multi hit qcb+slash move if you're quick. Plus he has a dp throw (badass) His air move can trick opponents and be used as an anti anti-air, to at least trade hits. Plus his reverse dp move tricks opponents, as it deflects regular attack, but has lots of recovery if it's blocked.

This game is worthy of a MVS/AES purchase for sure. Best Neo game since Metal Slug 3. SvC on the other hand, would be the PS2 purchase, although I'm still gonna get the MVS kit.

Well, finally a Samurai Shodown strats and tactics site is "up". By that I mean, the forums and media and stuff isn't up yet, but should be within a few days.
