this is a great deal. The 9800 np is faster then the 9600 XT (8 pipelines vs. 4) and if you have some balls you can flash a 9800 PRO firmware bios onto it and viola! a 9800 Pro for $199.99! Best bang for the buck out there in the vid card world right now.. Only thing faster if hacked is the 9800 XT which is like $499 or something.

Can I use this thing in a regular old AGP slot? I mean, I don't think I have 8x, 4x, or even 2x.

Interesting -- I was thinking about getting anew video card. I have a NVidia GeForce 3 right now. How much better is this card? And is this card one of the best in the industry right now?

They are not even in the same class really. there isn't a Nvidia on the market that fully supports DirectX 9..

instead of just spatting off a bunch of stats I'll just sum up and say that this card is at the top of the list..

I'm not really looking to get into a ATI vs NVidia debate -- I just want to get a top of the line video card that will run anything on the market, will run things for at least a few years, and not spend more then $200.

And they're not backwards compatible correct? That's more what I was asking. I've known squat about video cards ever since th Geforce 3's came on the market.

Wasn't trying to start a debate.. Just said Nvidia doesn't have a card that supports DX9 yet.. sheesh.. so ATI is your best bet..

goes.. 9600pro<9600XT<9700pro<9800non-pro<9800pro<9800XT

now if you overclock a bit (who doesn't) then

9700pro<9600XT<9800non-pro=9800pro<9800XT

the 9800 XT is the best card out there right now.. it is faster then the 9800 pro "..by 5-10%" (Toms hardware)

so you are getting a $350 card for 200.. and one that will play DOOM III, HL2, etc..

No, I was'nt looking for a debate either, and I don't care what I buy, as long as it's a good card.

So this will work out of the box for modern games, like Knights of the Old Republic and Homeworld 2?

And I don't overclock.....I'm also looking for a card with a lot of memory (128, hopefully) and is fast. The Direct X 9 support is very important, though.

Thanks for the info -- how long is CC doing this? I don't have one around me -- could I get it from the website?

it's in store only.. and though the sale is on going until this weekend the cards will be long gone before the sale ends. The sale is all over the hot deals forums.. Ebayers will be all over them as it's $50-$100 in the bank.
