This week's game was chosen by scooterb23. The next person on the Mame Club list will get to choose their game the coming week and must PM me with the chosen title by Monday night at the very latest.

When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. It would also be nice to let us know other aspects of the emulation. Here are some things that would be good to know:

Did you like/dislike the game? Why?
What type of machine are you running it on? Specs?
What version of Mame?
How long did it take you to beat it? Score?

Again, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game!

This week's game can be found here:

I'm afraid I'll need to drop out of the club.

I just haven't had time to even download the ROMs for anything since Battle Bakraid (which was great, btw), and I'm not really participating at all.

Assuming I find time, I'll still try the weekly games out and post back with my feedback, but you can take me off the list of game-pickers.

All the same, I still think this 'club' is a terrific idea. Have fun!

It's nice to have a ROM under 15 megs for a change :)
This game is interesting, haven't gotten far yet to give a review.
BTW, what are you supposed to do when you get all the gold in a level?

You SHOULD be sorry for picking that one. It sucks!

I'm Sorry is a fairly basic maze game, the goal is to get all the goal bars, and then make it to the "In" door...that's as much as I know about it :)

Oh yeah, you can punch the bad guys...and you can also jump over obstacles.

I know it isn't the best game in the world, but I really like it...it's got colorful graphics, it's definitely odd, and I think it has enough challenge to make it addictive. Plus it has a small file size :)

For the record, I can only get to level 2...and around 17,000 points :) But it is the second most game I have played in MAME. I'm saving my favorite one to torture you all with next time >:). And people that know me probably already know what my favorite MAME game is... :)

Don't worry bro, my game will be just as bad (or good) depending on your outlook. It sure as hell won't be 15 megs though I'll tell you that much :P

I'm glad that we aren't playing popular (even with every DP member) games. I like to hear about games that people like, even though they may not be mainstream at all.

After a bit of playing, I like it too.. I'll give a full review later.

My choice is coming up soon... so I'll be hearing these comments soon enough too. :)

Alright, enough. :D

First of all, it was 13MB, second of all, are you trying to play these on a tandy, or what? What sort of computer doesn't have room for 15 damn megs? I'm pretty sure that's a little over one ten-thousandth of my hard drive space. LOL

As for "I'm Sorry!"...okay, this game's awesome. I really like the idea of it. I've only played about three levels so far, but once I figured out what I was supposed to do, I really enjoyed. Of course, I think I enjoy it more just because of the outrageous main character design, but that's just me. Oh, and punch the gates to get into the center. It took me a bit to figure that out.

Is that main character sprite used in another game? It looks so familiar to me for some reason... :hmm:

Anyway, it's a maze game, you can punch, and the god damned soundtrack is stuck in my head. It's nice to know you can jump too. I must've spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to dodge the log thingy. LOL Nothing great, but one of those games I might pull out once in a while. How many levels are there?

Sega hitman, from these boards, uses it as his avatar. Is that where you've seen it before?

That must be it. Thanks, it was driving me nuts.

Let's hear some high scores! I've been playing this game for a LONG time. If it wasn't for my recent fascination with Battle Bakraid THIS would have been my first choice!

My best score is about 36000 points...making it to level 3...I keep getting killed by the big muscly guy.

I hadn't noticed before that the baddies put on S&M suits, and beat you with a whip when they get you...a little bit naughty O_O @_@ :eek 2: :eek 2:

I managed to work up a score of 51000 or so... got to the fifth level, once you get the hang of the game, it's actually kind of easy. I don't know if this is a tip or not, but in the third level, there are black things around the level, and you have to punch them a whole bunch of times to break them open and get the gold that's inside. I'd imagine you can't beat the level without these bars.

The gist of the game is to pick up all the bars of gold and take them to the building at the top middle of the screen (where it says "IN"). You can take the bars there at any time, which will award you whatever points are in your characters speech balloon. You get a LOT more points if you pick up ALL the gold in the level and deliver it all at once (your speech balloon wil go to 9999 when you have it all). You also get a bonus for whatever time you have left at the end, so speed is important. Of course, enemies get in your way. You can either punch them (well, some of them), or jump over them.

Overall, it's actually a rather fun game. The characters and graphics are completely whacked out, but each level has some neat additions that keep the game from getting old... like the pools where you have to jump between the stones, the fire hydrants that (for some reason) spit fire periodically, the gates you have to punch down, and the statue that a ghost comes out of (for some reason). The enemies get quite relentless as well, especially that annoying heat-seaking barrell that follows you all over the place.

The graphics are decent... not great, but probably somewhere around low-quality Genesis style games. The characters animate nicely, and have a bit of personality... of course, stuff like the S&M government agents is completely unexpected. The sound effects, however, are about as generic as they get... the bouncy music that plays is decent, and fits the game, but it's nothing exceptional.

My only real complaints about the game are that the levels are reset when you die... so if you're having trouble with a certain level, you're almost certainly not going to beat it. The unpredictability of things is a little annoying too... when I first saw the water in the second level, I walked straight into it and died, since I had no idea what it was (Maybe it was ice? Maybe my character could swim? Who knows?), you also have no real idea what anything in the level does until you either get hit by it, or punch it a bunch of times (Can you punch the ghost in the third level? I never tried, since I assumed I'd probably get killed). I also think it's annoying the way parts of the level must be punched about 20 times in order to break them.... luckily, you can punch pretty damn fast, but it's still weird that you can knock enemies out with one hit, but opening a gate is quite a lot more difficult.

Overall, I guess I'd give the game a 7/10.

By the way, I'm new to this MAME Club thing... how do I join up?

lol no it wasn't a slight on you my brutha LOL I guess it was just an indication of how I tend towards pre-84 games (i.e. tiny) and that's about it :)

ps. I do have a complete Mame set by the way (thank god for Usenet), but yeah, my p3 600 tends to choke on some of the larger romsets. But that's cool. I still need to make comments on the first 2 games. Damn I got some work to do! :P

I love I'm Sorry. It's definitely different!

I'm glad I found this forum. I'm always looking through the 2,000 + unique games on MAME looking for something I've never heard of....

They actually managed to make Jacko scarier than he is today. LOL LOL LOL

I just managed to get 106,255 and to level 6! It's worth the effort to get there! In level 5, you are introduced to good ole Michael Jackson - 80s style. In level 6, Richard Simmons starts jumping all over the place! What a riot....

This is the type of game I was hoping the MAME club would pick. It's funny and esoteric, with solid old-school game play. After playing for awhile I could reliably get to level 4, but later levels get HARD. They add jumping joggers that are more difficult to punch, multiple barrels, dissapearing stones in the water, and this positively evil red S&M woman who blows fiery kisses across the screen at you.

Just as an FYI, the KLOV website has a lot of interesting facts about this game:
The title is a play on the word "sori," which means Prime Minister. The main character is former Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, infamous for his plutocracy.
Enemy characters include Carl Lewis, Michael Jackson, Japanese comedian Tamori, and professional wrestler Giant Baba.
So I guess Carl Lewis is the jumping jogger that keeps killing me. I knew there was some reason I never liked him. :-P

Sorry buddy. Once you're in, you're in. There is no leaving the club...alive. LOL j/k

My review is coming tomorrow. Been a pretty busy week for me, and I can't wait to relax to a good game!

Oy. I'm not writing a review for this one. While it is an addictive title, it's hilarious, and the music's pretty good, it seriously overqualifies in challenge. Excuse me.

*steps into secluded area*

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! GODF**KING S**TSHAFT SUMNAC**T HOMING BARREL!!! F*********K!!!!!!!!!

*casually struts back to computer*

:D

But it is a good game. I think it would have been better without the barrel. That thing's just unfair.
