I live in Maryland, and it's coming from NC.
It's been about 2 weeks now, I assume it's coming media mail.
Most of my packages take far less time than this, but i'm sure media mail can take a good amount of time, even more so because it's the holiday season.
I shouldn't get too worried just yet should I?

As soon as a week, as long as 1 month to 1.5 months.

This time of year it could take 3 months with all of the holiday traffic. I've found that during other times of year, if it takes more than two weeks, it's because the USPS opened it at some point and it's probably going to come postage due when it arrives.

I've never had anything take more than 2 weeks, but I have heard of stuff taking 3-4.

Yep, it definately slowed down with the holiday season. If they have a DC# try looking it up on usps.com

Is there any official sign or form or anything that the post office has displayed that says that they have the right to open packages at will? Unless its for security reasons I find this to be a huge invasion of privacy.

At my local USPS just today I saw they had put up a sign announcing that they'll open Media Mail packages at random.

I have shipped a lot of items via Media Mail. Sometimes the packages arrive in 3-4 days. Typically the packages arrive within 7-10 days. The longest it ever took was about 3-4 weeks, but that was for a package that I sent to Alaska.
By the way, according to someone on AtariAge, the Post Office has issued new regulations that state that video game cartridges are not allowed to be shipped via media mail.

What would be the reasoning behind that? It seems kind of random to me.

Holy crap, that would suck. Do you have a link?

Meh. If you're shipping one or two carts, First Class doesn't cost that much more. We're talking mere ounces here...
Now, if it's a big lot of stuff (say, 30-40 carts in boxes), then I understand and sympathize. :(

Here is a link to the message on AtariAge that stated that you can't send video game cartridges via media mail. On page two of this thread there is a copy of the new postal regulations.

Yeah, but here are the guidelines for Media Mail, and they have been like this for years.
"Used for books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer recorded media such as CD-ROMs and diskettes. Media Mail cannot contain advertising.
The maximum size is 108 inches in combined length and distance around the thickest part.
Mark each package "Media Mail" in the postage area."
You could look at the lawsuit, or whatever, about Donkey Kong on the Coleco Adam and use that as a known example to justify that console video games are not the same as computer video games. I don't know... I've shipped lots of stuff Media Mail that doesn't technically qualify, and I've never had a problem & it's always arrived in about a week or less. Nothing has ever been beat up to my knowledge either.

I've had quite a few media mail packages arrive postage due because they were something like NES carts.

I told the clerk "software" yesterday and she accepted it fine as media mail. It was some genesis & 32X carts. :|

Yeah, but if it gets opened, it's not that clerk who is making the decision as to whether or not to deliver it postage due.
