well how do you distinguish DC betas, and what are they?

all of the ones i've seen are on official sega gdr's. there's also some white discs that i think are pal that a lot of people call betas, but i'm not too sure about them. there seems to be a lot of the white ones.

The white PAL discs aren't betas, just promos for stores and journalists. I've got a Le Man 24 Hour promo.

Does anyone have a picture of an official Sega gdr? I really would like to start collecting these, and would like to know what to look for.

Try www.dreamcasthistory.com for some pics.

The PAL white disks are more like kiosk disks sent to retailers. Much easier to find than an orange Beta. However, there is a Flinstones game which was unreleased which CAN be found in this format.

The orange disks require the System 2 disk for play but there are also the "silvers" which anyone can play. These are unpainted final copies. They appear silver on top and bottom and often have some printing or writing with a magic marker just to let you know which end is up.

Its hard to find protos these days with Ebay pulling any item listed as proto or prototype but they do pop up every once in a while.

correct BUT, there are white labels of Flintstones, 4x4 Evolution and most likely also Half-Life, two of those games weren't released at all, one not in europe, so they are in fact betas or protos or whatever

I have a Playstation one demo disk of Titan AE. Its not a beta all of a sudden just because it was never released.

The Flinstones demo is a nice one to have but its not really a beta its a store demo. I think they are even marked so.

Thanks Adam for the info and the site.
BTW does anyone know where to get the System 2 disk at?

Someone here said something about a downloadable version somewhere on the net.

If this is true then THAT IS THE WAY to go.

I paid big bucks for my originals

Ready to rumble 2 was marked as a beta and crashed all the time on white label.

I have about 300 Orange GD-rom discs courtesy of a friend at a certain UK magazine who stopped those and a dev kit hitting a builders skip 2 years ago.

could you/DCM perhaps make scans of those and give them to dreamcasthistory, i think a lot of people would be interested in those, even without making the game itself available for everyone

Drop me a line with a couple of email addreses and I'll happily take some photo's of what I have and get the photo's from DCM he has of Colin Mcrae 2 and Take the bullet.

I've got things like a really early version of dragon riders, them inhouse MD emu, the unreleased Japanese MSR etc. do you know Craig who lives in london? Now He's got some serious protos as well - does he post on there?

PM me, I'll try to do whatever I can.
