I never quite got the hang of putting my PS2 in standby mode (on, but with the little light in front turned red) instead of just turning it off with the switch in back. Years of gaming have ingrained into me the instinct of turning off the console when I'm done, come hell or high water. I'm curious as to how many people leave it idle, watching and waiting for the moment to strike...
Er, what I mean to say is, do you turn your PS2 off completely or just leave it on standby?

Mine's either been on or on standby for the past 3 years.

I should be allowed TWO VOTES!
*waves fist at poll*
Because I currently have two PS2's hooked up. One domestic, one Japanese. Before you get on me about modding my PS2 let me remind you that I bought my import PS2 on import launch day :)
2 votes for me, dammit!
Oh yeah. "Standby" it is. Two tiny red dots in the darkness.

Standby. It's also worth noting that i haven't used it in over a month. College SUCKS.

Off for me. I hate leaving anything on when I'm not using it. I boot and shut down every time I use the computer, too. :D

Off, although Medal of Honor: RS and S.O.C.O.M. II are calling me from under the desk...

Oddly, despite my advice to the contrary, I almost never use standby (using it more recently though, for one-hour absences). Really, with all the stuff I run under WinXP I can't afford to do otherwise :P

Off. I never ever leave a game system on. I have a release day PS2 (bought it new on release day!) and it still works flawlessly, which I personally think speaks for turning the system off and leaving it vertical :D

I've never flipped the switch in the back... never had a reason to, I always considered it to be off after I held down the power switch. Also... this thing about leaving it vertical? I turned mine sideways after reading about unplayable disks from this site and Gamespot....
So vertical is better for machine, horizontal for games?

Um, I play all my games on it vertical. I've never had a single issue of any sort with it. Not one. I don't know anything about unplayable discs....have never seen any yet :D

My own personal PS2 is always on standby mode-unless it's in the process of being moved or traveling with me, in which case I turn it off on the back.
The PS2 at work is always turned off in the back simply due to the fact that we rarely start it up on a whim.
Oh yes, mine's been vertical since day 1 as well. But I'm on system #2. *shrugs*

PS2 is jammed in the vertical position between the TV and the edge of the armoire with several games piled on top of it, so I'd have to pull the whole mess out just to get to the switch. Hence, standby.
Ground control to PS2...

My PS2 is turned off.
Interesting side note. when I originally got my PS2,
I played it vertical and had a problem with it scratching disc.
I had it repaired under warranty ( the wait sucked )
And they replaced my scratched game. I was told not to play it vertical. :?
I havent had that problem since. :hmm:

I leave mine off because I'm so used to switching off a console after I'm done with it. Old habits can be hard to break. ;)

I'm definitely in the "standbay" camp. If there's an electrical storm or something I might turn it off - but usually I just use the power bar for that to save *all* my equipment.
(You can also count me as yet another launch day user who uses standby, has his PS2 vertical, and has never had a problem with the hardware).

My habit is always turning something off when I'm not using it so if I'm not playing anything on my PS2 then its off.
Off if I'm not going back to it in 1/2 hr or so.
Launch Day PS2, vertical, no problems.
