I was riding with a friend today, coming back from a local game shop, when I look out the window to a shopping center right across from the other shop an see a store with a fairly expensive looking sign that says "Rhino Video Games" on it. Had it been a cheap or even generic looking sign I would have just assumed this was a local affair, but being fairly nice looking I figured that it may be something small that's a chain store (similar to Micro Play several years ago). Has anyone else seen one of these stores before? If so, any good/bad experiences with them? They weren't open yet, by the way, so I couldn't go in and check it out :/.

Okay, the store opened today and I went in after work. My first impression was "damn, it isn't cluttered like Gamestop!" (not that I don't like Gamestop, it's just that the two stores near me are sort of crammed into a tiny space!). I talked to the manager (at this point and time the only employee) and it IS a chain. He said they're based out of FLA and have been around for about 13 years.
Supposedly there are stores mostly in the south, so most of you probably don't care. It had some cool stuff for a game shop though. They had anime/game soundtracks as well as wallscrolls and such. As far as the games go they were a bit overpriced in my opninion, but then again, I'm notoriously cheap. One thing that annoyed me is how the ps1 games were kept, I couldn't tell if they were complete without asking the guy working there (I don't buy incomplete games unless they're on cart and I really want them). It probably won't be a frequent stop for me, but I may drop by occasionally to see what's going on and if they've got any good used games.
Also, in the first ten words spoken the manager asked "want a job?!?!" Too bad the pay isn't as good as what I'm making now ($1.25 less @_@ ), or I may have considered it. Anyone else have one of these around? Seems like a cool place, just needs a bit of tweaking to make it a worthy addition to my usual haunts.

Hey Justin, can you give me some kind of directions from Spartanburg? i think I'll go stop and check it out next time I'm off work (usually NEVER, especially the damn mall hours now).

Actually, you said that you go to Video Game Cavern in Taylors...look right across the street. It's in the strip mall with the Wal Mart. The manager seems nice, I just don't know about the prices...

Wow! right across the street....that some competition for ya. Do they deal in classic games also? Ill probably head up next Tuesday or something.
Ever checked out VGC's website, pretty lame... www.videogamecavern.com - the outakes are so terrible man, theres even one I'd consider a racial profiling comment (look for the madden one).

I think as far as they go in "classic games" is NES. They had some in a case with the used/new GBA games. I did see Mega Man 5 and 6, but they were $25 or so loose, and I don't really collect NES or know their worth.
I checked Game Cavern's site a while back and it was very lame. They also recently seem to have sold off their DC stuff save for about 3 games or so (:/). I didn't see what the racial comment might have been? Care to elaborate? I suspect that Game Cavern is doing some ebay business now, as they had stacks of padded envelopes last time I went in, all addressed to out-of-state addresses. By the way, were you in there a few days ago? I was in there a few days ago and I saw some guy asking for a boxed NES Arakanoid+controller...sounded more knowledgeable than their usual 'trading-games-for-cash-to-buy-pot' crowd. That's not profiling in any way, I know several guys who go up there and trade in stuff, and all 3 seems to have a taste for the chiba.

Oh, and Raccoon Lad...I don't think so. If that were the case they'd probably buy Atari's whole library and release it in an overpriced box set for the ps2 :D.

Oh MAN! Justin...we were in there at the same time! That was me asking for that Arkanoid & box! 16.85...I passed on it the week before that and I decided to pick it up this time. LOL That's what I call a hell of a coincidence. I noticed those brown envelopes you talked about, I didn't think they might be eBay sells though. hmmm, also the DC stuff you mentioned, I also noticed that.
Wow...im in shock that we were in the same store at the same time! :eek 2:
