This might be old news, but it is new to me.

This looks cool. How does the e-reader get enough info from a swipe? Perhaps the games are already on the e-reader and the swipe just unlocks them. What does everyone else think? Is the actually old news?

well, considering how I got one for Christmas.....last year....and they were a month or 2 old already then. Id have to safely say that yeah, welcome to last year!

yep, this is way old news. There are two camps: marketing gimmick, and marketing gimmick but cool anyways.

The scanner actually reads a 'dot code' matrix, and holds about 128k per card (or swipe, I can't recall). This is enough for the older 64K games like DK jr. to be stored on 5 cards. It's not enough for some of the larger NES games, however. In some cases, like Animal Crossing, a swipe just unlocks items in the game. In other cases, like SMA4: Super Mario Bros. 3, the card actually contains data (in SMB 3's case, new levels).
