View Full Version : How many systems do you have hooked up to a single TV?

I only have 9. I am SURE that many of you will blow this out of the water. How does everyone do this? Do you use splitters, switches, or just piggy-back a bunch of NES style RF adapters?

Also: Does anyone have redundant systems set up on a single TV (ie: a 2600 and a 7800)?

Do you guys make your own switch boxes or buy them? If you make them, hook me up with some info, if you buy them dosen't that get expensive (as if collecting isn't).

No, not really. AV and S-video switches are only about $20 and it's been stated that a standard AV switch will work for component.

at one point I had 35 but it was a fire hazard so Im back down to 9...it was pretty cool having 35 systems all hooked up to one tv though.

Geez. I've got 4 right now, and I'm trying to pare it down any way I can. (I can only play so many games at once...no, really...!)

Currently hooked up:

Sega Genesis, with Sega CD and Power Base Converter attachments (the SMS is hibernating)
Super Nintendo (no Super Game Boy yet...)
Nintendo 64 (in place of the Cube, which has the Game Boy Player attached)
Sony PSone (and I'm gonna detach it in favor of the GameCube as soon as I get my official Sony LCD screen...)

Now, I'm thinking of getting a VIC-20 I've had my eye on, but I really would have to buy another TV for it...and that's pushing the limits of space and sanity.

I have twelve. The 3DO, PS2, N64, and Saturn are all hooked into a system selector, audio and video. I have a splitter running from the back of the TV. One splitter goes to a SNES RF, and that has a NES RF piggybacked on it. On the other split I have my Genesis, which is hooked into a five way splitter which all the rest are hooked into. I can easily turn any of them on...except that sometimes I have to switch some of the power cords(I have 3 and they are all filled up with one extra cord)

Main TV: 22
2nd TV: 6
3rd TV: 8

Click for schematic (http://labwww.csv.cmich.edu/luke/videogames/gameroom/Schematic.gif)

RF on all TVs is tied to a switchbox with 3 outputs. It's possible to put Tecmo Bowl on and turn the place into an NES sports bar.

Jeez! What 35 systems did you have hooked up?

I found that with too many hooked up at once, it became difficult to play them due to controller cable lengths. I ended up hooking up four systems each to my two TV's -- The SNES, Genesis, N64 and PSX are all hooked up to one television, and the NES, Dreamcast, Gamecube and PS2 are hooked up to the projector. My SX-64 has its own monitor, and my Amiga 500 can quickly jack into my RGB monitor when being played.

Heh, I've only got 8 at the moment plugged in, but it's possible to have a few more, but it's less of a cabling problem and more of a "where do I put this console?" problem. I've also run out of power sockets. :o

Through daisy-chaned RF cables: NES, SNES, Mega Drive and Saturn.
Through AV selector box: Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox and GameCube.

I only have one system at a time hooked up. Never really felt the need to hook more than one up at a time.

down to 13, with the option of running more thru the VCR's A/V front jacks. at one point i had over 20 but then it became an octopus fight and i said to myself "am i really ever gonna have a need to play the channel F?" so i pared down to the essentials, and i'm not counting the sega genesis/ sega CD / 32x/ master system 4 times either! its nearly fair to say i have every console available so the list of what i dont have hooked up says more than whats ready to play.

on the unhook list:
channel F
RCA studio II
3DO
CDi
Neo Geo
Odyssey2
astrocade
leisurevision
all the 8 bit comps
famicom
superfamicon
jap sat

I got 8 on one tv, and 6 on another.

One is done mostly through AV switchboxes (except my neo geo, since I only have the rf box). The other is all RF, so its mostly older consoles, O2, coleco, intv, 7800, toploader NES, CDX, and soon a tg-16 will be added to that particular heap :-P

17 or 21, depending on how you count them.

i.e. does the Sega Genesis with Sega CD and 32X attached count as one or three?

NES (AV mod)
SNES (s-video)
N64 (s-video)
GameCube with Game Boy Player (s-video)
Famicom with Disk System (AV)
Super Famicom (s-video)
Genesis with Sega CD and 32x (AV)
Mega Drive (AV)
Dreamcast (s-video)
Panasonic 3DO (s-video)
Playstation (s-video)
Atari 2600 (s-video. a great mod!)
Atari 5200 (AV mod)
Atari 600XL (AV mod)
Atari Jaguar (AV)
TG-16 (AV mod)
PC for MAME (s-video)

These are all hooked up through a network of Pelican game switches, and everything's set up on my home made game shelf, ready to rock.

Last week the 5200 actually gave its spot to my new Xbox, but I'm going to try to get that back in the mix eventually. See my signature for a picture of the whole rig! This picture it from before I added the PC and swapped the Xbox in for the 5200.

I have 15, just my most played systems.

NES Toploader - RF
Famicom - RF
Famicom Disk System - RF
Super NES Model 2 - AV
Super Famicom - RF
Xbox - AV
PS2 - AV
Gamecube - AV
N64 - AV
Sega Master System - RF
Sega Genesis Model 1 - RF
Sega CD Model 1 - RF
Sega 32X - RF
Sega Saturn - AV
Sega Dreamcast - AV

Thats all for now, If I were to hook another up I'd probably connect my 3DO or something.

Curious, how does everyone else plug theres in all at once?, I bought a 4 ft power strip! It has 16 plugs and you can plug the large AC adapters every other plug, and a regular small plug will fit inbetween them. There pretty abundant on eBay.

Zach

For power I have several surge protectors chained together, with one "master power switch" mounted under one of my shelves. When I flip that switch off, none of the systems (or their AC adapters if they use them) receive power. I don't want my game shelf to burst into flames!

jgenotte

Zach: where is your tv? from your picture it does not appear to be near the systems. Doesn't this cause problems with cables being too short?

Zach
12-04-2003, 04:11 PM
jgenotte: My TV is about 8 feet away from my game shelf, and is viewed straight on from the couch. The game shelf is to the left of the couch. I have the room laid out like this so that there are no controller cables strung from the TV to the couch (no more tripping!). And this would be a concern since there's a doorway between the shelf and the TV, and traffic flows through the room in between the TV and the couch.

And as far as cable length goes, the AV cables from the systems only need to reach the top shelf where I have all of my AV switch boxes mounted. I have one long AV (and s-video) cable running from the output of the switch box network, around the corner, under a low profile, aluminum threshold, and over to the TV and stereo.

At one point I had 11 systems hooked up to my TV, but I'm in the process of trying to get all of my stuff organized, so now I have 4 systems hooked up. I'm going to buy 2-3 20" TV's and have different systems hooked up to each with my personal favorites hooked up to a big screen I am also going to buy. So much Money to spend x_x

Thanks! $20 is a half decent price, too.

Only one at a time, although I leave a Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and SNES/N64/GameCube AV connection looped around the TV at all times for quick plugging.
