I got my copy yesterday. Good lord it is glorious! If anyone hasn't picked this up yet, what are you waiting for? $11.50 is a friggin steal.

I'm with Scoots, here. I REALLY REALLY WANT a copy of this but with my employment situation I am not buying anything until I find a job. Right now, though, this is probably #1 on my (cheap) wantlist.

Yep. The minute $15 are sitting in my Paypal account, I'm on this one.

This is the first I ever heard of this, and I'm definitely interested. BUT, the main site for Vectrex Protector has an entry from April stating all units are reserved.

ALSO, I didn't see any mention of the $11.50 price, only a price of about 31 British Pounds, I think.

Where are you guys finding this?

Go to

www.vectrexcarts.com

They have the info there.

Man, this game is so damn good... easily the second-best video game purchase I've ever made (second only to my beloved Dreamcast).

It amazes me how much magic they can squeeze out of the old Vectrex.

I'm surprised that they could pull off a horizontally scrolling game like Defender on a system with a vertically oriented screen like the Vectrex. I always thought Satan's Hollow or Sinistar would have been a better fit.

Isn't it amazing how great homebrew games are?

Vector graphics are just superb.

I received my cart a few days ago. It is definately one of my favorite purchases of the past year.

Thanks Mark!

Is it safe to assume that this Protector is the same version as the one I got about a year ago? If so, I'm glad he decided to make more of them, it IS a fantastic game! If not, does anyone know the difference?

No difference directly in the Protector game itself. But you don't get the overlay, and the hidden bonus game (Spike Goes Down) is missing, hence only the limited edition version has it in.

just got mine, excellent versions of both games!

theres a note on the back of the manual

This Vectrex Game Cartridge was produced by gaming enthusiasts for the enjoyment of fellow enthusiasts. It was sold for the materials cost (US $11.50 in 2003). Please do not ruin the spirit of our hobby by reselling the cartridge for a profit.

much has already been said about how impressive the games themselves are, speaking for myself i'm just as impressed with their sense of community!

Laid off, two kids, mortgage. No game purchases for me until this changes, not at any price.

Ddockery: IMO the overlay really did not add anything to the game. I think it actually looked better without it.

So far my Protector high score is 22,225 (never was any good at Defender). Anyone else?

My copy is on the way, but I won't even do that good. I'm the worst Defender player EVER.

I'm not bad at Defender on MAME and on the 2600... but I really, really, really suck with the thrust/reverse button scheme. My only complaint is that there's no option in Protector for left/right on the joystick instead :o (At least, none that I know of)

if you havent seen it yet check out the "credits" sequence, i fugured it was just a list of names and never bothered to look until my baby boy hit the button...WOW! you wouldnt think a vec could pull that off, i turned it off for fear it would fry the tube.

I just received mine on Monday.
Thanks for the tip Scoots, I had no idea these were being produced.
They're both sweet games, and have non-voliatile memory to save high scores.
The packaging and cover art is cool too.

YASI is Vec-Voice compatable, anyone tried that yet?

Great service from Mark too, I emailed him on Thursday,
sent a Paypal on Friday, and had the game on Monday.
