Can video games be sent via media mail, how about VG systems?

Thanks, I never thought to ask while at the post office.

I ship games media all the time - they are *media*, after all. Systems are a no-no, though.

Schroll down through that for the definition.

Games are a no-no too. If they open up a package and it contains carts you're sure to get hit with postage due. If they find CDs, it's about 50/50. The post office isn't working with the pure definition of the word media.

A risk I'm obviously willing to take :P

Then I should probably also mention that it's common for the games to get damaged aesthetically during shipment in an open box. I had a bunch of NES games get nearly destroyed that way and some Saturn games that had the cases crushed.

When will they ever open your package?? I have sent many things media mail that probably don't fall into thier criteria, but how are they going to find out??

They state in the Media Mail TOS that they will open random Media Mail packages and inspect the contents. In my experience, it's usually poorly packed items or items that look from the outside like they may be in violation, but I have seen a couple of well packed things get opened too.

Yeah, carts are definitely not media mail. But just try to pass it off as "software"

I always be sure to put a hole smeg load of tape around the package and label to deter them from opening the package if it has questionable material.

I would say it probably about 1% of the pacakges that actually get opened and inspected though. One guy snuck 50 NES clamshell cases to me as media mail :hmm:

Yeah - I like to pack well and wrap the box like a mummy in tape. I also always respond with "software" when I'm asked what the contents are (rare). Once, a new guy working there (I know all the old-time staff) threatened to bust the box open right there, and I said "go ahead." He surveyed the package for a moment, realized that it would be a pain to open with my tape job, and allowed my package to go Media as requested. The key with tape is to be not only excessive, but also *neat*... they hate messy tape jobs.
