Whenever the next grand theft auto game comes out. Then they will start blaming that. People just need something to blame for their own insolent actions.

All I have to say is that Klebold and Harris did tremendous damage to the videogame industry when they programmed and planned their Death mission using Doom software. You're just going to have to live with it I guess Sotenga, because the truth is there are some crazy folks out there that just might get some crazy idea from a violent video game and act on it. It's not impossible, and as long as the possibility remains open, there will be blame put on games. Of course what I think of parents that blame their children's crime on video games are doing, is that somehow they feel it should alleviate their child of real guilt, or even that the parents feel that blaming games alleviates THEM from guilt somehow, because no parent wants to be accused of bad parenting, and most won't accept they could possibly be bad parents. Because we all know that good parents give their children all the most violent video games available instead of spending some time with them.

When I was growing up, the most violent games that were around was Doom and Mortal Kombat. I played some Doom but did'nt find it that great (I'm still not a huge FPS fan unless it has a good story and/or something besides just running around killing people). MK I rented and my Mom shot me a look, but she let me do it. My parents actually paid a lot of attention to what I was playing, and sometimes would ask me questions about it, but as long as I did well in school and kept doing other hobbies and stuff besides games they left me alone.
No WAY on God's Green Earth would my Mom have let me play GTA 3 if that came out when I was 10-15. :D And I would'nt let anyone under the age of 16 play it either, if I could help it.

I mean we all know there is no such thing as a Haitian street gang. How dare Rockstar make up something like that.

In the game, an ex-convict has to recover stolen drug money and take on the Cuban and Haitian gangs that run the streets.
Once again, "outrage" by someone who has never really played the game. You don't HAVE to "take on" the Haitians or Cubans; their missions in the game are optional. And after you finish with the Cuban missions, the gang and its leaders become friends with your character. The game also features a Latin radio station that has probably exposed a lot of people to music they would not otherwise listen to.
I'm not saying VC is a "good" game by any means, but Jesus Christ, give this crap a rest already. All it's going to do is promote the game even more. Shouldn't the Haitians be worrying more about their government and stuff like food shortages, rather than a video game?

Yep. LOL
Seriously, yep. I walk up to a bum, demonstrate for free my martial srtist skills on him, call it assualt against me, and I get a $500 cash settlement. Now what's wrong with that photo? I can't blame the hobo. I did it; I should be punished. Know what I mean?
You're right, Gunstarhero. I'll have to live with it. I understand. It's all about the people theirselves. The f**king game is responsible for nothing. If all these idiotic assholes would take the time to distinguish the barrier between fiction and reality, then we'd have no problems. It would be all peachy-keen... in a perfect world, which Earth is currently far from. I've actually taken this news for granted. The next GTA title will probably take much flak from the masses. I would actually expect it to. If it goes totally unnoticed, then there's something wrong with the world. It's natural, now that I think of it. People kill people. They blame everything on similar incidents that occurred in a virtual world. Controversy ensues. These things happen.
But mark my words: The next story I spot about Rockstar being sued over GTA, I'll scream ungodly loud and kick everything in the immediate vicinity without remorse. Remember that. Okay?
EDIT: Justin's wisdom pointed out that I misuse highly complex words in place of simpler ones. Thanks, BTW. :embarrassed:

"They've made money out of the blood and tears of a whole nation," he said.
Oh what BS. This is really starting to piss me off too. It's a freaking game. Get a god damn grip. "Hate crimes" my ass.

Games, movies, TV... they're all violent. Games were just "traditionally" a kids medium, and now it's not. It's taking people a while to get used to that. America needs to realize this and get over it.
Anyone ever read any BOOKS lately? A book I was required to read when I was 18 (Lord of the Flies) had 10 years old killing each other, in my more brutal ways than GTA does. When I was 15, I read Tale of Two Cities, where they guillotined (sp?) people.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to read both of those for my English class, and I'm 14!!! X_x @_@ O_O
They are both great pieces of literature. Classics, if you will. Sure, they are violent in some situations. That gruesome scene describing the death of the pig? It's a twisted interpretation of sexual intercourse. No, really. The author, William Golding, intentionally described it to resemble sex. And A Tale of Two Cities? I remember them talking about a Marquis running over a little boy, and getting killed by the townspeople the next day. I also remember these brothers raping a young woman! And both novels are unparalleled classics in today's world. The moral is: All great legends involve a dash of controversy. Something like that.

@Sotenga, you may want to look up the word "autistic" in the dictionary before you use it next.
These boycotts are meaningless, and I'm sick of the race card being played. At the end of the day these boycotts don't mean a thing, you know why? There's too much money to be made. No retailer is going to buckle when they have a million-seller available for purchase.

Yeah, these kind of blame games are really iritating. However, I don't think anything will come of this or the sniper lawsuit either. Those 2 kids were 14 and 16. If they are too stupid to realize shooting guns at cars will hurt people, then I think the problem runs way deeper then a violent video game.

See THATS the problem right there. Its not the video game's problem (with its adult rating) that someone gave this to a 14 year old. If parents think this game is such a problem, put pressure on the retailers like you did with cigarettes. I get carded more for smokes now at 23 than I ever did 10 years ago when I was 13.
And for those that want to be pulling race cards, shut the F**k up and address your gang problem first.

Yeah, some crackpot Miami lawyer tried to say that the shooting spree here in Columbus was because of GTA:VC as well...despite the fact that they had no suspects, and no evidence to support that theory.
There also have been 0, none, nada, zip shootings since this became a news story (took 12 shootings and 1 death before it even became a news story...) , but that isn't stopping people for suddenly being scared, and overreacting.

And then there are others who say video games let people release aggression and get it out of their systems. You know, crime has been going down for the
last decade, hmmm.......

I am surprised that Jack Thompson, the crusading lawyer, was not mentioned in the article. His involvement is probably not unlikely, however.
I recently read another article about a tragic crime in which Nietzsche's writings were implicated (alongside Goldeneye and the like, of course).

I just love when people describe a game like GTA by saying "you score points by" shooting, running over, robbing, etc. SCORE POINTS! SCORE POINTS! what game are they playing? there are other examples that prove that these people dont know what they are talking about, but I have forgotten them all at the moment. I had researched it at one time(really), but my mind is gttin to mssd p frm al da gms... must kill.....
