(Dear Sothy,)

There is a young man of a cat by the name of "Benicio". He lives in my house. I like to play video games from time to time, and I use an extension cord with my controller so I can sit up on my bed while playing.

Once I've started playing, it's not long before Benicio comes padding in and attacks the cord! He likes to chew on it. I yell at him, and after he ignores me yelling I toss him off the bed, and then he jumps back on the bed, and then I yell some more, and then I toss him out of the room and close the door.

But I like the door open. What should I do?

Signed,
Cat Really Upsets Daddy

You should be glad you don't have a rabbit. My rabbit bites THROUGH cords in one single nibble. *sob* I lost over $250 in cords.

As for your cat, they make various anti-cat sprays that you can put on the cords and they won't go near em :)

When Slyvester was younger he chewed almost all the way through my old computer monitor too.

If you're using a modern system, you could simply use wireless controllers. I think they're available for all 3. There is a conconction you can use to rub on the cords that cats hate...I think it's called "Bitter Apple" or something like that. That was mentioned once to me but I've actually never seen it. I don't like the idea of Tabasco Sauce (whether that was a serious suggestion or not). The cat's just doing what comes naturally...basically, being a cat. Try bringing in a few extra toys including a scratching post. Or just close that door while you're playing...

Actually, Tabasco Sauce works like a dream, if I remember correctly. We used to use it for our cats. It doesn't acutally harm them, most of the time they sniff it and back the hell off. One of our cats did lick it once, but he just made a face and went and drank some water.

Go to your local pet store and buy this spray called, like, bitter apple or something. spray it on your cords (won't get sticky either). Cat's and ferrets HATE it!

Either that, or stop yelling at the cat whenever he does something like that. Instead, keep an can of air freshener around and spray that near him (not at him though). It'll get his attention and make him stop (and learn not to do that) and keep him from being afraid of you.

I have two cats and two ferrets....
I pay them so they do not to touch the cords...

It's the christmas tree im worried about hahaha.

Christmas Vacation is hilarious with the cat under the chair scene. LOL

Seriously tho, my buddy has lost 3 PS2 controllers this way. He finally went wireless.

Don't complain. There is a guy on the Vectrex newsgroup currently whose cat chewed through the power cord on his Vectorcade. Yes, I SAID HIS VECTORCADE. Suddenly a couple controllers don't seem so bad.

Just wanted to second AtomicThumbs's recommendation. I understand that bitter apple spray is the proverbial miracle cure for cats, rabbits, ferrets, etc. who like to chew on cords.
