Wow, I've been playing it on Midway Arcade Treasures and damn is this both hard AND good. I'm very impressed on the graphics of this, for it's time it must have been mind blowing. If I ever live my dream of having a basement arcade/game room, I'm tracking one of these suckers down.

Any of y'all do the 255 ship trick?

I did it once in the arcade about 20 years ago lol. I picked up Midways Arcade treasures and tried to do it recently. Plays pretty good, and yes its a hard game. Also, the sound in the game is kinda low. Notice that? :D

I did notice it but when I have my supergun hooked up to the same TV the volume is low too. I wonder if it's the system selector...

Uh, pardon my newness but can you actually beat sinistar before he forms. I've tried sneak attacking him but it seems like he shrugs off my bombs like the Hulk with fleas.

The sound on almost all the games on Midways Arcade Treasures is low for me.

To answer a question, you should be able to sneak up to the building-in-progress Sinistar and destroy whatever pieces are there. I remember this being in Joystik mag's 'strategy'. Shoot a sinibomb and follow it and you'll find Sinistar. But it won't count as you've destroyed a Sinistar.

I don't recommend this practice, man the game is hard enough to get enough Sinibombs before he roars out and eats your ship. Sinistar is so hard, it always has been. I usually play it on my Saturn Williams Classics disc and it's really good there too.

Speaking of the sound though, back in the day, a Sinistar machine would scare the crap out of you with it's bizaree loud roaring voice! ROAAAARRRR!!!! I HUN-GER! I think the coin-op machine must have only LOUD and LOUDER sound settings. ;)

Come to think of it, a few other games in this package have low sound. But I found Sinistar to be the lowest. O_O

Unrelated: I remember playing Sinistar at an old-timey arcade with my friends. I remember after Sinistar said "Beware, I live!" I yelled "Beware, I eat!" The 3 of us laughed so hard as all the other's who were playing all there driving games just looked at us like idiots. Fools.

I'm curious.. How well does this version play compared to the real thing? One of the reasons I bought the actual cab was for the 49 way optical joystick. It's not really playable in MAME or any of the other packages I've seen it in, but with if they used the analog joystick it might not be too bad...

Thx,

Here's an old article on the game from Joystik that gives some tips on the game and an overview. Thx to DLH for the scans

Alas, apparently Midway passed up the opportunity to do Sinistar right, as discussed in this thread. (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=218037&highlight=sinistar#218037)

Just picked up Midways Arcade Treasures an hour ago. And yes, no Moon Patrol. And only got this so I can play Joust, Stargate, Satans Hollow, Sinistar, Joust2 and Defender. I say its worth $20.00. The only gripe I have so far is the sounds in Defender Stargate go in and out at times. And when you use Inviso and shoot at the same time, the inviso doesnt seem to stay on that long. The version in Williams Arcade Classics is better.

But overall Im happy. Despite the bad rating the game got from Gamespot. By the way, what do they know anyway x_x
Glad to hear that you're liking it. My big question is this: Does Sinistar allow your ship to point more than eight directions using the analog stick? Sinistar on Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Williams Collection limited you to eight directions, while the arcade version had many more intermediate directions.
Sorry Man, 8 directions again. Wasnt the arcade like 48 directions or something like that? But it's playable bargora. Well if you didnt mind the Williams classics. Also, the sound is kinda low compared to the other games.
