View Full Version : Wondering if this atari I have is rare?

Hey guys, I've been looking on ebay for a couple hours now and even though I see this system pop up fairly often, almost every auction says it is rare. I'm wondering because I have this system and it would be a nice surprise to find out if it is indeed rare.

Nope, it's a bit more uncommon but not one I'd call rare. Probably the rarest atari is the "2800", which is the 2600 that debuted in Japan if memory serves.

That's the Atari 2600 Jr.
It was released in the early/mid 80's as a cut price version of the old 2600 VCS. The 2600 Jr. is to the VCS as PSOne is to the PlayStation.
I have one and they are hardly rare.
In fact, on eBay Australia - these are more common than the regular 2600's!

I have a 2600 thats never been opened at all. the original paddle set too
and the corless controllers, never opened.
wonder what that be worth.

Ah well, maybe someday. I did manage to snag a free lucas arts hat and FF-X2 poster at GS today though. :)

Wow, seeing that brings me back.
I remember in '92, I had out my dad's big, brown 2600, playing Frog's and Flies for a good 3 hours(!) Anyway, I accidentally had left the system on, but without a game, overnight! Needless to say, it was dead by the next morning. I demanded my mom( I was 5 1/2) to drive to every garage sale in Cleveland until we found another one. Fianlly, we found that Atari 2600 Jr. for 3 bucks. I even paid for it, and I even got Popeye for free, because of my story!
Damn, I was retarded.
More rare is the VCS JR with the small rainbow stripe on the top, as it is from Atari Inc. and not Atari Corp.

Any idea how much more rare it is? I have three Jr's, and two of them are the small rainbow models.

The Jr. Isn't rare, but it's rarer then a 4 switch.
I ahve the 2800, man its cool. I got mine off ebay for $280. It's probably the rarest Atari 2600 (ever mass produced) but it's not an american release. You can get teh same model though as the Sears Video Arcade 2.
