I want your opinion on this. I have collected all 4 series of the Animal Crossing e-Reader cards plus the card that came with the e-Reader and the Link card. Do you think that these might actually be worth a lot someday and be rare, or did I blow a lot of money on all of them over the summer when I was collecting them.

I think they'll eventually be somewhat rare... after all, probably not that many people are collecting them, and since it's somewhat of a niche market (ie, only people who own Animal Crossing and an e-Reader will have these), there's probably not a huge amount of them out there in the first place.

However, the niche market will probably carry on into the future, so only collectors who have (and like) Animal Crossing and an e-Reader will really be in the market to buy them, so even if they're rare, their price will likely not be as high as other equally rare items. Sort of the same situation as Channel F games.

:whistles:

You haven't seen some of the prices for those cards then! Anyhow, I'm not sure how 'niche' it's going to be, since you don't have to have the e-reader to use them. Anyone who has a copy of Animal Crossing would be able to use them.

I was hoping they will be worth something in the future...not that I am likely to sell them, but at least I'll know I have one thing that is worth something.

I don't see a big market for them untill like 20 years from now (Nes is to us now). That's when stuff liek taht seems to take somewhat of a value. But honestly I don't think you'll ever get a big profit.

Yea, that's what I figured. I realized that they won't be worth too much now, but maybe someday they will. And if not, oh well.

I collected all of series, most of series 2, a little of series 3, and a pack or 2 of series 4. I was REALLY obsessed with AC-I have plushes, cards, figurines, keychaines, etc. I took it so far as to buy the Japanese upgrade (Doubutsu no Mori E+) with a Japanese e-reader just so that I could scan in new characters. If you have a bunch of extras of the later series, I might want them (Even a little of series 2 that I'm missing). I love the things, but that's what I get for being a completist :D

Sorry, I can't help you with extras. I don't even have 1 extra card. Back when I didn't have complete sets I would sell my extras on eBay so I would have money to buy the ones I didn't have.

Really? How do you use them without an e-Reader? Is there a password on them or something?

Yea, the cards have passwords that you can enter instead of scanning them.
Never did it that way though...I always just scanned them.

I have quite a few and I think they will never be really in demand as whole sets. I am guessing that 130 bucks for a full set (I was seeing this price when I was collecting) is about as high as they will go. There may be the odd person that will throw down a grip of cash for a complete set (every card made).

Yeah, but $130 for a complete set is a rip-off. That's what, $.40 a card or something? That's less than the cards cost brand-new most of the time.

It's about what it would cost to buy enough packs to get all of them. Some of the cards are pretty tough to get.

I'm not saying it's a ripoff, but there are people that will pay and I don't think that value is going to increase that much. That was my point.

That's some expensive animal crossing right there....

$130 will get you all the cards if every single card in each 5-card pack is one that you don't have. It is not what it would cost to buy enough packs to get all of them. At $3 / pack, you'd need at least 40-50 packs just to get 200 cards - let alone the 200+ unique cards you need to have a complete set...and the fact of the matter is that nobody's going to trade a common card for some of those islander ones from the first series (which are rare cards).

In reality, you will probably be spending $175-200 or so just to get enough quality doubles to do some aggressive trading to fill the holes in your collection, and will spend even more than that if you don't trade at all and just try to get all the cards from the packs you buy.

People paying $130 are getting a good deal because they get the complete set at approximately retail cost without having to do any of the work (trading / etc.) of collection for it. I'd never sell my set for so low.
