Ok so I just got my first Dreamcast this weekend. I love it so far but am having probmes already. I got "Chu Chu Rocket" with the system. After playing for it a while (1 hour or so), I turned it off. Then about 30 min later I turned it back on and could not get the game to load. Also, after playing the game a while the music started to skip as though the system was lagging. So I put in the "Web Browser" CD and it workd fine, but I still could not get the Chu Chu Rocket CD to work. Anyway I took it back to the game store where I bought it and we tried a few diffrent games. They all worked fine, so I just returned Chu Chu Rocket. I went to another store to get Chu CHu Rocket and everything seemed fine. I played for a while and the music started to skip again, not a big deal. Then I turned it off and after a while turned it back on only to find the CD will not load even with repeated attempts. WTF? I went to bed. This morning I turned it on just to see if it would work and it did. What is going on here? Anybody else have a similar problem? I wish that I had another game to try but I dont, just the Web Browser. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
-james

Open the door when you have a loading or skip problem and see if the disc is actually spinning. If it's not spinning, then perhaps the lens is dirty and incpaable of reading the disc. Clean the disc for good measure, and then take an alcohol wipe and gently wipe the lens on the console once or twice, no more than that. Chances are good that this will get you back up and running. I have to do this about once every six weeks or so and it seems to do the trick.

Sorry, I forgor to mention:

The game disc looks brand new, no scratches or anything (the returned Chu Chu Rocket also looked great)

The disc does spin. I can hear the dreamcast changing the disc speed and laser placement while it is trying to load. It repeats patern of disc speeds and laser movement that i interpret as checking or looking for the disc over and over again until it gives up and goes to the dreamcast OS screen.
