Game that is not to be CLASSIC: anything by Acclaim :)

Welcome aboard, "Iron Monkey". Arrr (previous post) defines CLASSIC very well. It's not old, but it's something that will be remembered for a long time.

Enjoy your stay!

There are two meanings for "classic":

1) old
2) memorable

The first is only meaningful to define an era. The "classic" games era is approximately 1977-1984. The problem with this is that as time goes by, you build up more history. For instance, what does "classic car era" mean to you? To me, we're talking the 50s, but there were many cars before and after, and other people will say the 20s, others the 60s, and so on.

The second still has a connotation of "old" but it's not as important. And I almost said "good" instead of memorable, but given how nostalgia ties into it, that's not guaranteed either way -- some bad games are remembered, and not all good ones are. In this sense you'll hear people say "Metroid! Now THAT was a classic game!".
