I finally got this, and yes -- it's definitely the best Splatterhouse out there. The PC-Engine version is defintiely nothing to shake a stick at (especially for a HuCard) but the Marty version has slightly better graphics, and the sound is just wicked. It has al those great sounds that the arcade had.
If you can afford it, pick it up.

hu6800 - the Marty version of Splatterhouse is near identical to the arcade, and it is on CD. But you'd already know that if you visited West Mansion, the best all-Splatterhouse site on the net! (http://www.classicgaming.com/splatterhouse)
LOL sorry, I couldn't resist. LOL Seriously, I have some decent info on the Marty version of the game there... the only thing I'm lacking are screenshots. GaijinPunch, think you can help me out on this one?

Hey Guys:
Yeah, I'll come up w/ some screenshots. Was thinking of doing a video, but have had computer woes. I'm going to be moving soon, but I might be able to dig up the Marty and play some Splatterhouse. I'll try to give up some screenshots for Dire51's site. That would just be wrong of me to deny him those.
I've STARTED the FM-Towns section at Japanese Gaming. (If you're clever, you can figure out how to access it). It requires a bit of photoshop work, so I'm going to try to get it, and the Famicom section sorted out at the same time. Might be a few weeks.
In the meantime...

Hehe... I aim to please. There are a few others worth mentioning, where any other version just pales in comparison. Operation Wolf, Tatsujin-Ou, and Emerald Dragon come to mind.

That is one beautiful cover! You're making me want to come to Japan, stalk you, and steal your FM Towns man! Dayum! I wish I could afford it! :D

GaijinPunch - !!!
Those are beautiful... the ones I have on the site are hideous compared to those. Of course, I've already saved them, to be uploaded to the site in the next update. :D Any screenshots you can come up with would be greatly appreciated... please let me know if you can get them.
hu6800 - you have a question for me?

Just a quick ignoramus question here, what/who was/is Ving? I understand that Splatterhouse is a Namco property, no idea what Ving's involvement would be unless it was an FM Towns thing.

I can only hazard a guess here, as I'm not sure, but based on the two games I've seen Ving publish (this and Night Striker for the PSX, which was originally by Taito - thanks max), I'd have to say that they are (or were) a company that specializes in porting older arcade titles to new formats. They were apparently Japanese only, as I don't recall seeing any US or European games published by Ving.
Anyone else seen or have any games by Ving? I'm going to do some research and see what I turn up...

i THINK prisoner of ice is one of their psx ports for japan (it was a pc game), but i wonder if they're related to xing, which would make their output even larger...

Ving has done some other Taito stuff.
Here's one where I entered the publisher wrong:
http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~japangaming/information.cgi?base=bubblesymphony&system=saturn
And then you can use the Search Engine for the rest. You'll have to mind the Splatterhouse thumbnail there. Haven't worked those quirks out yet for the new system. :( Just use the engine that I slaved on. There's at least 6 Ving titles.
