I typed it into search above but there wasn't anything speaking specific about it, just some posters making comments about the thread by mentioning the NES toaster.

Remember the NewTek Video Toaster that ran on the Amiga 4000? Well, this is nothing like that.
NES Toaster simply refers to the big-nonaerodynamic-loaf-of-plastic that was the original, non-top-loading NES. :)

Nesicus Toasterus - Coming from the repeatedly popping out-style ejection of the game to re-insert it and wiggle it around to get it to work.

people dogg on the toaster too much, but that's my childhood. When I think of all the years growing up, Nintendo(NES) comes to mind first. and the thought that directly follows is either, contra, bump n jump, super team games, super spike vball.......or sitting there forever on the floor blowing in this stupid things, even trying hot air. tried q tips 1000 times. The neighbors always sent theirs into Nintendo, while we were too poor. LOL I had that same NES and collected about 70-80 games for it until i bought my N64 and sold the whole box of stuff to pay for one measely N64 games :( (NES toaster and top loader, only 2 Official US release NES systems)

Nes Toaster = Your worst enemy.
I recommend paying the $80 bucks or whatever for a Top Loader, much easier.

These guys don't know what they are talking about. In REALITY, the NES toaster was a neat little device designed for video game re-sellers/used game merchants that was capable of destroying old NES cartridges. It came in a 2-slot, or 4 slot version, much like regular bread toasters. You would load up the NES toaster with carts, and it would incinerate them into ash. They were mainly designed to help the destruction of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt carts, in hopes that used game merchants could increase the rarity of these and hopefully increase its value. If you get one of these you are very lucky.

I've heard both sides of the fence, i bought a top loader because it was cheap when I found it. And, as far as toasters, I think they're great units. Some people can fix them up with no problems, some people try 100's of times and never get one to work right. I don't know where the problem lies...

I've cleaned cartds, and replaced the 72 pin adapter in 3-4 different nintendos, and they've ALL worked pretty crappy afterwards (better than before, but still not at ALL good.)
My toploader works as well as it ever did, but it has problems too... <shrug>

My experience is the same. It is why I emulate the NES instead, yet still continue to collect the carts.

See, that is why the name is confusing as no toaster in the world pops toast out it's side. The top load NES would fit the term NES Toaster better.
I was thinking Video Toaster when I heard NES Toaster thinking awesome things, like maybe an NES with a hard drive that could play all NES ROMs.
Now lets name stuff right from now on! :) Like the Atari Jaguar w/CD-ROM looking like a toilet.
"Side loading NES being called a toaster, bah!" mumbles GameGuru

It's called a toaster because when the mechanism/springs start to wear out, it squeaks and kinda sounds like the noise your toaster springs make when pushed down.

i will claim to the same fate with my toploader, some games work just like the toaster did. Pull it back out and jam it in a little tighter and bam......it works. Could just be dirty games too. I need a tool to take my games apart and clean them with an eraser. but i know if i had the bit I would be too lazy to take all my games apart......what a never ending job....

I always assumed it was a toaster because it clicked down like when you push down on a toaster.

Sounds like a toaster to me!

that and a toploader......hmmm, i've never seen a toaster where you have to stick the bread in and toast each side seperately :hmm:

HOLY CRAP!!! I just got a great idea for the ultimate-best-in-the-universe-of-all-living-time pirate famicom/nes clone which i swear I will make! It will be made with a toaster. One slot of the toaster will be for the nes, and the other for the famicom.

I was hoping you were going to say that one side would be for NES and one side would be for toast.
