32X question.

I apologize ahead of time if I posted this in the wrong forum.


Anywho, I need to know if the Sega 32X add-on is compatable with the Sega CDX system. Some people have told me it won't work, and others have told me it will. I'd like to know because I'm thinking of getting a CDX or a Genesis/Sega CD soon. Thanks.

Yes, it will work. Sega originally said that it wouldn't, but this is only because they didn't get FCC approval for the combination of the two devices (Incidentally, I actually have a piece of paper that came with my 32X showing how to connect them using a (never released) CDX mounting skirt).

However, although they WILL work together, the connection might not be very secure. I've heard that it doesn't fit in the cartridge port all that well, and if it's jostled, it may cause the system to reset or lock up.

I've read that it will work, though you may or may not need to use it w/o the clips. It says in the SEGA 32X or CDX manual that it won't work. I read that was just because SEGA/SOA needed to resubmit each configuration for FCC testing and they didn't want to bother with the time and added expense for such an unlikely combo as the CDX and 32X so they just said it wasn't compatible.

I can't speak for everyone but I've personally seen it work. CDX, 32X, no clips. No troubles.
