I was just playing Max Payne 2 and decided to do something else. The game developers forced me to face my whimpy gaming ability. "I'm scared to go on." I had to highlight to get out..

Anyone remember any other games that do this?

minesweeper and solitare. Thats why I cant have them on my computer. But also GTA1 and 2 (but only for the networking), they were very very bad to me.

If you alt-F4 Baldur's Gate II, it does worse than taunting.

It GUILTS you.

"Are you sure you want to quit? Boo will miss you..."

Damned hamster and his unbearable cuteness.

Rise of the Triad use to act as though you were executing yourself when you quit.

"Press Y to trigger the guillotine."
"Press Y to flip the switch (Picture of electric chair)."
"Press Y to signal the firing squad."

Does it have to be a taunt, or do cute messages count? Wolfenstein 3D had a different message each time you quit, I believe...I was tooling around with it today and got one or two different ones like "Will you now leave with such reckless abandon?" or something like that. I know some others probably do it, but it's the kind of thing that you almost don't notice...

Doom for the PC taunts you when you leave a game O_O

"You want to quit? Then, thou hast lost an eighth!"
"I wouldn't leave if I were you. Dos is much worse."
"Just leave... when you come back, I'll be waiting with a bat."

And many others of course. Didn't Duke Nukem 3D do something like this? Seemed to be rather common amung FPS games.

"I wouldn't leave if I were you. Dos is much worse."

That is the all time best taunt.

I think you're right.

Warcraft may have also had some taunting... I know it taunted when you put cheats in. I think that makes a little more sense than taunting when you quit the game (unless, it's funny like the "DOS is much worse" one).

Wow, I didn't know somebody else remembered that one. The smoking guy (signal the firing squad) is still my avatar at a certain forum...

DOOM turns 10 today.

Wolfenstein 3d also had taunts when you started a new game.
with the main character shown as a baby if you chose easy mode.

Oh and Happy birthday doom!

add chasm: the rift to that list (very fun, underrated quake-type clone with a bit more interactivity in the levels- you can shoot out lights and windows, etc...). the game has a number of choice insults that sometimes make you play a bit longer just so you won't sign off to a real zinger...

Civilization 3 (and some before) if you "retire" to see the power graph, score, and such the other civ leaders are in a roundtable format and hurl insults at you.
