I know it's late... but, I can't be dreaming this:

Game Factory mentioned a beta test of the MMOARPG Ghouls n' Ghosts Online Zero will begin in first quarter of 2004. The game is heading to PC, PS2, Xbox and GameCube in 2004, and it will have cel-shaded graphics, cartoony characters like in Capcom's Maximo, and 15 playable characters.

This looks absolutely terrible! In fact, where's my paint program? I'm sure that I can do better than this.

I liked Maximo, and I even normally like cel-shading. One thing for sure, I don't like this. I think maybe Capcom should have handled this one themselves.

I have heard of this before, so I don't know if it's a hoax....however, your images are broken.

Thanks... Damn, I love file-hosting..

Anyway, the images are the joke.. or, they must be... otherwise, someone call gather some horsemen, the end is surely near.

Actually, I kind of like the designs. Would I want them to actually look like that in game? No. But I think they're cool pieces of art. They look better than the first iteration of link's cel-shaded model, anyway.

Odd. I have some character art lying around on my HD, so I suppose I could upload that. Looks much different from this, but do I need to say that..?

It's for real, but I don't think those pics are!

Well the first two are certainly forgettable, but I think Arthur looks pretty frigg'n cool.

Maybe it's just me... but doesn't childish art sort of ruin the whole "medieval zombies out to get you" theme of it? Ghouls 'n' Ghosts would probably make a decent survival horror game (although Capcom has plenty of those already).

If that cat with the Elvis hairdo should ever appear in any video game, I will boycott all products from that company and will consider giving up the hobby altogether. Please gouge my eyes out, somebody.

It's real all right... and apparently so is the artwork. I just received a slew of it for posting on The Ghoul Realm.

Online gaming is awesome, should not be missed if you have the capabilities.

I agree entirely. Ghouls 'n Ghosts (or Ghosts n' Goblins) is the original "survival horror", and it's a lot tougher to beat than any of the Resident Evil games. So why not make Arthur's saga as dark as it really should be?

How frickin' cool would it be using today's graphics to trudge through a dark graveyard in the dead of night, clad in full armor and carrying only a lance, as gruesome zombies and skeletons claw their way up from the depths?

 I just gave myself a chill...

Anyway, that picture of Arthur looks kinda stupid -- like if Mega Man grew a beard and went back in time. The small-stature-cute-kid thing works for Link, because he's supposed to be young. But Arthur...he's a full-grown knight, man.

Common misconception. Link was NOT supposed to be a young kid, at least, no until fairly recently. He was an adult in the first two games. As nintendo's image grew more and more "kid friendly" they slowly regressed his age, which pissed me off. In A Link to the Past he was a teenager, then in ocarina of time he was, like, 10, and in Wind Waker he seems even younger. I mean, just stop already. There comes a point when you're too young to fight the ultimate forces of evil.

Ah, the great classic debate of cartoony graphics vs. realistic graphics, will it ever end!!! Of course not.

I stand firmly in the middle and accept any graphics cartoony or realistic as long as the game has great mechanics and gameplay.

True enough. I don't know that "Wind Waker Link" is that much younger, though -- I think the graphics and those stubby little legs just make it seem that way. But so what if he is a kid, anyway?

Anyway...medieval Mega Man with a beard?

(And by the way, I agree totally with BH from the previous post -- graphics don't make much difference, so long as the game doesn't suck.)

Your loss. It was an amazing achievment.

Um, sure. For sports games I see it. But this is G&G, not a series that needs to be online. [/list]

Yeah, but the graphics can completely change the atmosphere of the game... if Resident Evil were cell shaded, whould it still feel the same? If Yoshi's Island had lots of dark undertones and evil-looking enemies instead of the crayon look, how would it feel?

When the next Legend of Zelda game comes out, I think it would be really neat if it had an option for either cell-shaded graphics, or dark, realistic graphics. It would probably almost feel like two seperate games.

I'm sure I'm not the only person that would disagree with you on THAT point, but that's neither here nor there for this conversation, right?

Cartoony or not, that insipid cat looks like the drugged-out hallucination of some Elvis fan who moonlights as a zit-covered furry. KILL IT PLEASE!
