Don't really like the graphics, but I'll order it for the gameplay, if it's cheap enough. Are these titles coming to the US, or are they import only?

well,I'll get it for gamecube via import from liksang.com
I don't think it will come to US.
and they are "cheap"
gamecube and PS2 versions of A.I. are 34.90 bux
I recommend getting it for GC (cause importing on PS2 is crap) plus a "freeloader". You get both for 54.90.- and u r armed for other great "japan-only" GC games like "Bonk" etc etc.

Bah, i would rather have Sega release a Wonder Boy collection. The direction they took with the series was much better than what Hudson Soft did with their version of it. At least the Sega version evolved rather than remain at the same standpoint.

Lik-Sang.com lists separate versions from Japan and Asia. Anyone know what the differences are? I'd want to play it on a U.S. Cube with the Freeloader import disc.

I like the look of the Bonk remake a lot more. They should've stuck with that. I might pick it up.....actually I'll probably just buy the original NES cart and save 30 bucks...

Adventure Island 1, TOTAL rip-off of Wonderboy 1. Wonderboy 1, VASTLY superior to Adventure Island 1.
Though, ADV Islands 2,3 were vast improvements over part 1.

Don't knock it til you try it.
you might end up liking it once you play it.

Ewww, looks like Donkey Kong Country! That's strangely ironic, as Donkey Kong Country always PLAYED just like Hudson's Adventure Island.

I've played Adventure Island and I can't stand it. It's not a case of judging without trying it first. For some reason, when Hudson Soft and Escape (Wonder Boy's developer) ported the original Wonder Boy to the NES (yes, it was actually a legal port, not a ripoff, as you can read below), some of the gameplay control that made it great on the SMS wasn't all that great on the NES.
The following quote comes from Klov.com, in the Wonder Boy page:
If you ever wondered why this game and an NES game called Adventure Island has so many similarities, the answer is simple: Wonderboy was developed by a company called Escape (who later changed their name to Westone). They decided to release a Famicom port with Hudson Soft, but since Sega owned the "Wonder Boy" trademark, Escape and Hudson were forced to change the name to "Takahashi Meijin no Boukenjima" (Master Takahashi's Adventure Island). Escape also ported the Monster World series to several consoles under the name of "Bikkuriman" (Bikkuri means Astonishing). Escape was not involved with the later games of the Takahashi Meijin series.

I just want to go on record as saying that Adventure Island 1 for NES does NOT suck. It Ruuuuuuuuuuuules!. It is one of my favourite games of all time. Yes I like Wonder Boy a lot too, this is not a fanboy nes/sms thing. Give Master Higgins a chance man. That game is great.

Coool. I wonder if they'll include Adventure Island 4 and Super Adventure Island 2? (Both great games, those, but very different from the rest of the series.)
What are the other three "Hudson Selection" games?

Heh, my question kinda got lost in the shuffle here, so I'll ask it in a more direct way. ;)
There are two versions: Japan and Asia. Which one are you all buying, and why? :)

@Hu6800: I'm not a game hater, as you called me, and actually I've owned a lot more Nintendo stuff than Sega in my life. Some games just don't flow with me (another example is Earthbound, which most people like, and I don't), while they do for other people, and vice-versa.
I already justified my opinion of the game compared to the original (see my previous posting above), so I won't repeat the reasons why I don't like Adventure Island (believe me, as a fan of the original Wonder Boy, I tried... but I just don't like what Hudson did with the series). Besides, giving my opinion about the series is allowed, and it's quite different from flaming people who do like Adventure Island.
I suggest you read my postings in different topics throughout the board. You'll see that I'm far from a fangirl blasting anything that's not Nintendo or Sega or what not.
No one's forcing you to like every game ever released (or every port ever released). I mean, I love Spy Hunter but can't stand the Nintendo port. Does it make me a Nintendo hater or a Spy Hunter hater? No, because I enjoy other versions of the game.
FYI, I don't consider myself as a collector, but as a gamer. I don't get games just because they're collectables but because they're titles I want to play. Also, I'm definitely cross-platform: I own an Atari 2600, a Colecovision, an intellivision, a NES, a Sega Master System, a SNES, a GameCube, a PS One, a Game Gear, a Game Boy Color and a Game Boy Advance SP.
Anyway, I'm done with this discussion. I just hate being flamed by a newbie who hasn't been here long enough to know how I am in those forums. [/quote]
