View Full Version : Homebrews?

What Homebrew games do you own for your video game consoles? The only requirement here is that it has to be on cartridge (or whatever), so you can actually play it on that console.

By the way, is it easier to make (if not program) such games for CD-based consoles?

All for the ColecoVision:

Space Invasion. Good.

Star Fortress. Good.

Dac-Man. A sort of incompleted prototype, but...still fun.

Amazing Snake. Old-school fun.

Bejeweled. It's popularity says it all.

Kevtris. The first, and, as far as the one-player games go, great.

Cosmo Fighter 2. It does show that the ColecoVision can move plenty fast, with multi-plane backgrounds.

Space Invaders Collection. Did you like the original? Then you've answered the question of whether or not to get this one. Utterly fantastic.

SCSIcide for the 2600 is a delight and a half... and Joe Grand didn't even have to pay me to say that! (Not like he'd offer... heh heh heh.)

I feel a bit weird, as I have only one homebrew: Feet of Fury (DC). Good game, a two-player battle version of Dance Dance Revolution, which I am also addicted to playing.

Well, if reproductions sort of count, I guess the 4-screen version of Donkey Kong Jr., Steamroller (thanks, Sean Kelly!), and Lord of the Dungeon are in, too.

Wasn't the 7800 version of Klax a sort of prototype, released in Europe? How does it play and look next to the NES version?

No, it is not release in Europe. The 2600 Version was released in Europe, but not the 7800 version. This is only as Prototype released. But maybe only the NTSC version. And now a Reproduction from this Prototype.

Klax plays well on the 7800, but as usual, the NES's much higher resolution gives it the better graphics of the two.

What are the differences in color and resolution? Sadly, the only screenshots I've found are not of good quality.

Only homebrews I have are Vecmania and Protector/YASI for the Vectrex. Both excellent and highly recommended.

Believe it or not, it's not appearing here! %$*^&%!!! piece of junk!

Keep in mind that I can't even play that Spunky side-scroller, or Armadillo Knight here.

Quickly tries one in "main room"...there.

O.K. Looks good. This stupid computer here takes 2 minutes just to get a post in.

For the 2600, I own:

Qb
Skeleton+
Space Treat Deluxe
SCSIcide

and I like them all! All are fun and well-designed games. There's a lot more 2600 backlog I am eyeing up. I think next I might get Climber 5 (when released) as well as Thrust Platinum and Oystron, among others.

For the 5200, I own:

Castle Blast
Koffi: Yellow Kopter (#1,#2,#3, and #100)

Although I never bought them, the author sent me near-finished versions of Klax and Haunted House 3D on 5200 too which I still have on an Eprom somewhere. I played 5200 Klax all night to test it, right before it was released. I need to get Castle Crisis for 5200 when its released!! I predict 2004 will have at LEAST 3 great new 5200 games!

I must also note that I wanted a copy of CV Ms. Space Fury but never got one. But I've played it on Emu and it is fantastic.

I've got a copy of M.U.L.E. for the Atari 8-bit on a cart. Not sure if I consider that a homebrew or what. It's fantastic being able to play the game, though, without having to load a diskette. And I don't think I should have to comment on how good M.U.L.E. is :)

And I just got my copy of Space Invaders Collection in the mail this week (I have it sitting here at my desk). Haven't had a chance to play it yet!

Thanks for reminding me. I've got SIC too. I forgot about it because I still don't have a CV to play it :shameful:
