I use to love the Ultima Series on my old PC as a kid. I was reminicing about those days and see U9 was the last in the series

I never played Ultima 9 IX Ascension , and was wondering if any fellow Ultima fans played it, the screen shots look pretty impressive. I was also wondering if it plays on Windows XP

I never really played Ultima other than Ultima Underworld, which was cool, but there's one thing that did impress me about Ultima...

How much I got for Ultima 1 on ebay. :) I sold it about 2 years ago for 117.00 USD to some guy in Japan. Bought a new bicycle with the cash.

I have Ultima IX...played it almost completely through...until a bug made it IMPOSSIBLE to pass a point that I needed to pass to beat the game. It's such a great game that I didn't feel like I had wasted my time, but it was still a letdown. Once I get a new PC, I plan on playing it again.

Great graphics, excellent gameplay...but just about the buggiest thing I've ever played in my life. If you're an Ultima fan it's worth playing through anyway though, and you can pick it up dirt cheap these days anyway.

Have you run it in Windows XP . I want to buy it (from ebay most likely) but I want to be sure it will work in XP

Alos there is a patch available, did you run it with the latest patch, maybe that would solve the bugs :-)

Yeah, I am a fan of the series. I think I only made it up to Ult 5 on Apple // back in the day.

Recently I realized I love the series and I am going to keep every Ultima game I pick up- to get one of 'em all in every format basically. Not on eBay, just when I stumble across them. I just picked up Martian Dreams.

So I got Ascension recently 2nd hand for way too much- $10. And a few days later was a half price sale (didn't realize) so I'm doubly pissed. Still it is complete with the trinkets.

Anyway, I didn't play or install it yet, because I was wondering about compatibility. Nice to hear in the above posts that it's cool for XP. I also read on IGN's review that it's a resource hog, which sucks, since my setup ain't screaming- and it was supposed to be rather painful on a P3 with a 3D card. I dunno if it will be faster with my PCI GeForce 4- esp. if it isn't designed to take advantage of it or if it ain't DirectX... Is it?

I also picked up the classics versions of Ult 7 and 8. I'm meaning to play them all, in fact.

I'd like to see some Ultima action in a Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for PS2 style. In fact, I'd like to see every game in that style. Maybe not, but the latest RPG/Action thing I really got into was that game.

Anyway, nice to see this thread. I'm into it!

I was a fan after I played Ultima 3 on the C64.. I went back to 1-2 but forund them lacking in story.. more of a treasure hunt then an rpg.

Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 were just ground breaking.. I wish XP could run them.. sucks how the first 3D rpg's are now unplayable unless you have an old DOS box.

IS that so? I haven't tried, but I was meaning to check out Underwear on my computer. What's the problem? Isn't there some way to simulate a little DOS environment? A front end someone wrote? Ack, too bad if I can't touch those. They would be great fun. Not like I have the time, but still. I have the CD...

I wasn't aware Ultima Underwear for DOS existed.:lol:

I liked the series as well and although I have U9, I just haven't played it. After 15 years of 2D game, U9 just feels too different to be called Ultima.

I also have both Underworld games but never really got into it.

As with Zork, it's been a really long time, but Ultima was great!

Haven't run it in XP, but I've heard it's OK.

The version I bought had every patch they released on an updated CD. It's a shame how quickly they dropped all support on that game though.

My current PC isn't that great (better than IX's minimum req., but not a whole lot), which is why I'm going to try it anew when I get a new PC. It's good enough to give me a respectable frame rate, but I'm willing to allow that perhaps it's related to the bug I encountered.
