I'm wondering what all you other loyal DP-heads thought of Magic Pengel, the role-playing game that allows you to create your own characters and pit them against hundreds of enemies. It sounds like a very appealing concept, but is it fun to play? Also, is it necessary to use a mouse to create your own creatures?

I only just got Magic Pengel, so I can't really comment on it much yet. It does seem like a lot of fun so far though. The graphics are awesome. The drawing tool is very limited AT FIRST, but you win new abilities as you progress through the game. You don't need a mouse (I'm not even sure if the game supports one), the controller works very well.

It's an amazing animation system (developed by a hifalutin Japanese organization, the name of which I forget) with a very weak rock/paper/scissors "combat" system grafted onto it. Agetec originally and wisely intended to ship Pengel as a budget title, but when OPM bizarrely gave it "Game of the Month," Agetec raised the price $10, apparently forgetting that reviews don't affect the public's game-buying habits in the least.

I love Magic Pengel! I bought it when it first came out, and although I've recommended it to a lot of people it still goes unsold. *shrug* Same with Everblue, which is sad. I believe both are out of print now.
I read that in Japan they even have a tv show where famous peoples doodles duke it out LOL
It's a little short, and surprisingly a little dark. But it's fun and beautiful, and fans of Gainax and Ghibli should definately pick it up if only for the ending.

pretty fun game, a bit too linear, drawing is a bit harder than you would think...but all my doodles have hulk hands...thus laying the opposing doodles to waste

but definitely a great game to have
