I was just playing Zone Ranger (5200 / 8-bit) this morning, what a wicked game. I just love it. To me, it's one of those rare games that I think, why wasn't this made into an arcade game?

What are some of your favorite consoles games that should have been released in the arcade, but weren't? To fit this bill, I think that it should probably involve some sort of scoring mechanism, not require save game files, etc, but most of all, be good and retain that very elusive arcade feel. Don't list every one you can think of, just a couple of the best console games that could have easily been put into an arcade cabinet, and you'd spend the money playing it.

Anyone?

I'm gonna say Ice Hockey for NES. It has that great arcadey feel, and 2p games are a riot. I don't think it ever appeared in arcades (I could be wrong on that though) but it certainly should have. There would have been some wild tournaments in my corner arcade back in the day, that's for sure.

Definitely worth a quarter.

I always figured there would be a River Raid video game, maybe with updated graphics or something.

Also, Gianna Sisters, man that would have been a great game ... maybe they could've changed those chicks into like, Italian plumbers or something.

R-Type Final is pretty badass, it'd be good for an arcade game.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tempest 2000, TMNT Tournament Fighters, or Gunstar Heroes as arcade games. T2K in particular would have been awesome.

I have a Nintendo Vs. Unit (cocktail) and it put SUper Mario bros. which would be the number one choice for me.

Do you notice that teh new games just dont have that arcade feel liek the old ones?

i could see viewtiful joe being an arcade game...i know you can save in that game but still, it has a very arcade feel to it. add your favorite mega mans to the list as well. and ikaruga. need for speed and tony hawk would've been good.

A game I'm surprised was never ported to arcade is Ninja Kids for NES.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog -- I'm mystified as to why, as popular as it was (and still is), it never made into a cabinet.

An arcade version of Mega Man would be awesome -- maybe take the best stages from games 1 through 8 and update them with modern graphics, then add a scoring/ranking system and maybe a vs. option (in which two players compete to beat each stage the fastest, then battle each other at the end with their choice of blasters).

I can also imagine how sweet a row of four to six linked Need for Speed machines would look -- complete with your choice of exotic dreamboats.

So, does anyone else think that perhaps the tables need to be turned around a bit? Since arcade games can't get any better graphically than the home games now are, maybe they need to start porting home games into the arcade instead

I'd much rather see that than any more of the gimmicky crap that passes for arcade games these days...

Ikaruga is also an arcade game. It's japan only, but its an arcade game nonetheless.

The Mega Man arcade games were alright, although I woulda preferred actual levels, the boss fights were fun.
