I'm sure I overpaid a bit, and the third picture of the monitor isn't a good picture because of the flash :) The only thing wrong with it is a small discoloration in the lower right corner of the monitor, most likely from the drive back home

Oooooh, puuurty...

I know when we get our house the basement's becoming a game room. Then the saving for a Big Red 4-slot begins in earnest :)

congrats on the cab pickup! I dare not even ask how much that one set you back

$350 actually :)

I found it on ebay, the guy lived out in Dover, so it was an easy drive. The challenge was getting the thing in thouse, turning corners in hallways, and going down stairs, heh.

I'd tape off that side art, sand down the side a bit, use some wood putty to fill in those chips, and shoot the side with a coat of black.

Of course, advice like that is always easier to give than follow. At least two or three of my cabinets are in worse shape than that and I've never done a thing about them. I've found the easiest way to hide bad sides is buy MORE cabinets, and put them close together. Hides all kinds of flaws ... :)

Congratulations, and welcome to the club! They're addictive!

Yeah, it definitely need some touch up here and there.... and there, and there, and there.

It's the only one I'm gonna have until we get a REAL house, that's for sure, this one BARELY has a place for it, and it's cutting into my kids play area at that :)

Never been used sophitia side art eh? Mine's looking a little rough if you ever wanna get rid of it :D

It does look very nice, and I would also do the painting on the side. But Flack is right there addictive. When I first got my machine I wanted another but not that bad. Then I Got My Nintendo Vs. unit and now im dieng for Burgertime, or anything I can get agood deal on.

ARCADE MACHINES = CRACK!

If you look hard enough, I don't think you will have to save too much for a 4-Slot. I got one as an early birthday gift a couple months back. It only cost $350 w/4 games. In almost perfect condition. Just keep calling around and I'm sure you will find a great deal.

Just spent about 10 minutes with my favorite friend - the black magic marker :)
The side looks ALMOST PERFECT from 1-2 feet away, I shit you not. They were gouges, just scrapes. The edging still needs something done about it of course, but from where I'm sitting right now, the mitsurugi side looks brand new.

Unfortunately, I'm about to have him face the wall when I get it into place, lol. So now I need to marker the sophitia side :)

I HAD 3 arcade games before I HAD kids :) I had Columns, Gate of doom, and John elways QB. Kinda wish I had kept gate of doom, don't care about the other 2, I was young, and they were cheap ;)

You have NO IDEA how spoiled they are. They have their own nintendo set up on their own 32" TV in their own entertainment center.
They just turned FIVE.

Congrats on the purchase..

Not sure how good you are with electronics and a soldering iron, but here's a few tips from someone who is:

- Get a cap kit for your monitor. You'll be amazed how many things you can fix with one. You'll also extend the life of your monitor because all the components on the chasis will be working within their factory ranges again and no component will be stressed.

- do consider spending time fixing the side art "professionally". It looks amazing. My machine was so banged up, I ended laminating in black the entire thing. It's easier to clean, doesn't scratch, and feels really nice.. but some people prefer to restore, others prefer to pain with multiple coats of laquer to give it that amazing shine. (laminate = newer machines, paint = early 80's and older feeling)

- Consider buying new buttons and joystick. These are the cheapest thing to change in a machine (~2$ per button, 10-15$ per joystick at MOST!) and they will feel very springy and good. My machine had 2 buttons that were always sticking, and a direction on the joystick that didn't register anymore from over use!

Apart from that.. your #2 favorite web site in the world should become

Yeah, I have 2 new controllers and 12 buttons (all happ) on the way to my house, the second I got the machine home I ordered them, didn't even try the controllers :) And now that I HAVE tried them, I'm glad I ordered new ones, heh.

The side, if I find some new side art, I'll most likely paint or re-finish, but unless I find some replacement side art, I'm keeping whats on it there, and I'll do what I can around the edges, but any kind of painting or sanding requires me to bring the thing outside, so that's not happening for at LEAST 6 months :)

Excellent..

do consider fixing the monitor as well. As far as the side art is concerned, you can always try to reproduce it at Kinko's (if it's available online). They will result in you painting the side and sticking the side art.

There's so many things you can do!!!! What ever you do, have a blast!

After moving the machine into the corner, the bad spot on the monitor is almost completely gone (Never understood how that works, but anyways..)

I also took the control panel off, DE-soldered all of the wires, and re-attached them with quick release female couplings. Just be that much easier when I get the new controls in to switch them over. Whoever had set the machine up also put guard on the wrong side, so I had to guard with my pinky finger, which is just WRONG, so that's been taken care of too.

I ALSO took the marquee light out and am getting a replacement for that and the lights coin-slots (Assuming I can find these at radio shack/home depot)

Good luck with these 2 items and home depot.. never found it.

But what I did find, and it's the CHEAPEST is to find a local arcade distributor in your city. They tend to have a parts department that tend to be real cheap and carry all the parts you need!

Doubt theres an arcade center anywhere in NH :)
But, I DID go to home depot, and found all the lights I needed (I think I got lucky on the coin door lights, I just happened to find them)

Unfortunately, the fluorescent didn't come on, so either the bulb, or fluorescent fixture fuse is blown, I checked all 4 fuses inside the game, and they were fine, so I'm guessing I need a new fluorescent fuse (Which I have 5 of, but all rated for the wrong wattage) So back to home depot I go (sometime, too much damn snow right now)

I had the same problem..

one of the coin door lights was out, and the florescent light behind the marquee didn't want to turn on. I got a box of coin door bulbs (they only sell in boxes of dozens around here) and a whole new floresent light with bulb kit (didn't want to fool around trying to fix a 5$ item!)

Since this topic has been discussing lights for arcade machines, I was wondering if anyone had a site with info on it on how to fix a 4 slot neo geo mvs's lights

slot 1 light doesnt light at all
slot 2 light lights very dim
slot 3 lights perfectly
slot 4 lights perfectly

i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to look at to fix it or can direct me to an internet site
