WISHFUL THINKING. No idea if this is real (doubtful). But it's very cool none the less.

You know how awesome one of those would be, not to mention expensive.

Wow, that thing looks pretty wicked. Sadly, we'll never see one...
What's up with the X/Y SNES button layout? :hmm:

Anyone else notice the screen is almost the same size as a GBA cart?
No thanx. I like my eyeballs.
Although, admittedly, the rest of it looks pretty damn sweet.

Damn, I really wish Nintendo would do something like this. It certainly would hold off the PSP and N-Gage, and those tiny disks are just begging for a portable system.
However, a while back I noticed that the Gamecube apparently consumes 39W of power... making that portable might be pretty tricky.

Wow! Very nice...but like someone said already....look how small the screen is! Jeez.
Oh well, very very nice mock-up

Well, it's worth pointing that due to the way the discs would load, the screen is more comparable (in width) to the size of a Gamecube disc... which is bigger than the screen on my GBA.

that would be excellent and don't forget the video outs for a tv :) Nice "fake" image though

The gamceube is already failing, so im thinking they won't make a portable version of it.But That thing (my guess) would sell for about $300-350. A Gamecube is a $100, GBASP is $100. That thing must be damn hard to make. Just my guess.

Considering it doesn't exist makes even harder to make. :P
I would love one of those. I don't see why that design wouldn't work. I usually won't buy a portable if it doesn't fit in my pocket. I mean it is a portable. I don't like carrying a purse (gamebag) around for my portable systems.

The problem with it would be power I would think. Look at the battery I need to run my current portable Playstation - it's a freaking monster!
I love how the image has "confidential" pasted in the background. Nice try dude, but I'm *not* buying it as a real product :)

Well, Nintendo is in a bit of an odd position when it comes to the handheld market right now... the GBA is quite underpowered when compared to the competition, so Nintendo's going to have to release something more powerful eventually. Nintendo may have an enormous stranglehold on the market, but if they decide to pit the GBA against the PSP, who knows what might happen?
Releasing a portable Gamecube would be a good idea because they would easily overpower the PSP (at least, judging from the PSP information I've heard so far),,, plus they could tap the existing Gamecube userbase who already own games that would work with the machine (which could prove interesting if Sony tries to re-release a lot of PSX classics on the PSP), as well as having a ton of games available at launch.
When you think about it, the GBA is essentially a handheld SNES (especially with all the ports), and it succeeded despite the SNES being obsolete at the time.

Zero, very interesting perspective. I still really don't think they would do it, just because that's the way I feel. BUT, it would.....so totally rock. Yet, It would really make me angry due to the fact that I bought a GBA, then a GBASP, and now GBCASP. They couldn't hike the price too high, maybe $250. I actually think $250 sounds reasonable, as opposed to the N-gage. The N-gage had no backing at all and would really barely get a good start at $100(IMO) but seeing that N has quite a background and all the current games would be compatible. $250 would be within reason(IMO again) $300 would be the limit though, there are gamers but gamers are cheap. People already hate the prices of games and with the current low price of the GCN and GBA(SP), not many will fork over much more than that. Very awesome concept though, I would hate to think somebody spent all the time creating that on their computer for no reason.

I was just thinking of how much I love the games I've bought for my cube, and how awesome it would be to take them with me. Sonic Mega Coll, VJ, MK:DD and the list will only grow......

Nice Concept, But I personally think they should have shaped it more like a Portable DVD Player, but still easy to hold. Remember the "Action GameMaster"? :P

Seriously, a screen smaller than a gamecube disc? That would be terrible.
Now, if it were a total fliptop and had a screen the size of the whole thing it would be a whole different story... but it doesn't exists so it's kinda moot.

You know, the idea of their next portable machine being a Gamecube is starting to sound wise. Not only do you *instantly* start with a good sized library of GC games (which can compete graphically with your competition), but you've already got developers out there who know how to make the system jump through hoops.
Of course you potentially lose all Game Boy compatibility (I'm assuming it's too expensive to incorporate in a launch day model), but I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily. Being seen as old/dead technology would be worse.

as neato and obsessed I would be IF this system actually was real...
I really DON'T want to have a portable gamecube. I mean yeah its neato, but the GBA has enough awesome games to satisfy my gaming thirst when I'm on the train. Who the hell wants to play Mario Sunshine on a tiny screen. I mean come one, sometimes I have troulble with the image of the Cube on my regular 20-something inch TV. I like a nice big image, unless its GBA standard.
I say, keep the cube at home, its much better with a subwoofer and a flatscreen.

I have to agree with this and add something else... this would not help Nintendo, at all. What they need to do now is change their image, not make any more gimmicks. I'm really really really interested to see what they've got to unveil at E3 this summer.

I think what they have to do is compete technologically with the competition. They can't be introducing another 2D machine when everybody else is introducing 3D machines (<cough> Saturn <cough>).
Whether they use GC technology or not doesn't matter. And if you think about it, the Game Boys have been based on old Nintendo technology all along - why not make it immediately compatible with the system it's based on instead of releasing the same games to us in a different format (ala Super Mario Advance?)

no you are not the only person that did not notice that. the gameboy player maps the Select button the either the X or Y button since the gamecube controller has MANY more buttons than that GBA.

I would imagine that if Nintendo were to actually make a GC/GB Player hybrid, they would probably print "Select" above a button, sort of how the Master System labels button 1 as "Start".

Yeah, but it's probably a Ni-Cd, right? If so, it'd be a lot smaller and lighter if it were a Li-Ion battery. Not that you don't have a point, tho.
