During the Xmas season Holidays, if I attend, I always bring a console and games to the gathering. Simply put, I can't stand to talk to the family, I get alot more enjoyment of showing my little cousins and nephews my video games, and playing games with them. It comes off as me just disassociating myself and being anti-social, but I like to play games with the kids. This year at Xmas, I'll be bringing my NEO GEO along and having a blast. Last year, My little cousin wanted to play King of the Monsters all day, it was great fun. Seriously, I wouldn't show up, and haven't before, if I couldn't play video games, or do something fun like watch a good movie or something.
Sure its kind of dickish of me to snub the family, but its boring as hell to answer the same damn questions you always get asked...hows work going? What do you do in your spare time?...blah blah blah...Im gonna play some video games. They probably think its a waste of money but what do they know...it's fucking fun I know that, and the kids get a kick out of it..thats important to me.

If I drive to ANY party or gathering, I always bring my Atari 4s 2600 Woody, 2 sets of paddles, all 180 or so carts and my wireless Atari sticks. It all fits in 2 rubbermaid containers.
Sometimes I'll hook it up at a party of people who are not even friends just FOAF and drunk 30 somethings always get a kick ot of Warlords on someone's 56" TV. I will admit it isn't always a hit.. Last New Years I had to battle with some drunk chick who was trying to run the party like she was store manager from the Gap.

Last August a friend of mine had a huge end-of-summer party. I brought Dance Dance Revolution...which none of the people there had seen before. The next day at least 8 of them bought PSones, pads and Konamix. Even now I get begged to bring my DDR to parties....and if it's not DDR, it's IIDX and Pop'n Music. Sometimes THUG and NBA Street.

On holidays our relatives that live in the area come here so I don't have to worry. I either go upstairs to all my systems, or go down to the basement to my MVS.

Me and my Friends usually get together on the weekends and get big Lan games going on Xbox. We had a 16 player Halo fest once. :D It was awesome. We all play Halo, Rainbow Six 3, ect. It's a blast trash talking everyone. I have a friend that works at EB and he usually gets me alot of freebie stuff like shirts, demo's, keychains ect and we'll hand that out as prizes if the kids come.

I almost always bring my NES for Christmas. This year, my nephew is 2 so I'm thinking of introducing him to my good friend Mario. Is 2 too young to learn to play Super Mario Bros? I don't want to put him off if it's too complicated for him.

When I was still living with my parents I would take my PSOne pretty much wherever we went. Ski trips, visting relatives for a week, whatever.
Now that I'm on my own, I tend to lug my computer around more than anything. Sure I still have an absolutely astonishing number of games to play through (and I do intend to beat every damn one), but if I'm just gone for a few days as is usually the case, the internet and Counterstrike usually get me by.

Hey Gunstarhero. You're not alone - and you're NOT disassociating yourself. You're very much associating yourself. The kids are part of your family too, right? Who's gonna blame you if you're young at heart - and depending on the age of the kids, you're probably seen as doing the family a FAVOR by keeping them all entertained.
I don't ALWAYS do it, but when we get deep into the holidays (like... "nowish") I do, since as you say, we've seen each other a few times already and there really isn't all that much news.
My nieces and nephews are all in their teens now so they don't NEED my entertainment, but I think they still look forward to it. ONLY Uncle Joe would think to bring Beatmania or Guitar Freaks controllers and games to a family holiday gathering :)
It's all good fun, why not enjoy it with your family?

HELL NO! hehe I started my little guys on SNES when they were 2, and now they are 4 and 6, and play like all the time! And they are incredibly good! Nathan, the oldest, gives me good compitiion at many games, on alot of my games too. Also they both use and are comfortable with the large Xbox controllers. Its very cute to see little kids playing games. Also I swear it's helped with both of their hand/eye coordination too.
Let them in the fun early!

The only thing we do for christmas is eating with familly,
so i see them about 2 hours. i can do with out games for 2 hours.
To me christmas is all about watching corny xmas movies (mostly Chevy's Christmas Vacation), eating, drinking and just being lame alltogether.

As long as I can remember, siccne back in the days that the 2600 was the only machine in our house, I have always taken videogames with me on my family's annual trip to Cleveland. Portables for the trip up and back, consoles during the stay there.
Now that I've got multiple systems, I usually take the one that I'm most enamored with at the moment. That said, I've taken my PS2 the past 2 years, and intend to do so again this year. I may only be up there for a span of 2 days, but nothing beats some gaming when everyone else has gone to sleep after dinner.
For those taking a newer console with them, you can't beat the G-Pak for a carying case. :rocker:

I own a GBA and not GBA SP.. they are used only on vacation.
When I go north to my fiancee's cottage.. I also bring my PS/1 with the original sony LCD screen. I find it easier and more enjoyable in doors than the SP.

I come from a small family (single mom and younger brother). In contrast, my wife is the oldest of five grown children so I tend to find family gatherings on that side of the ancestral tree a little nerve-racking. Individually I like them all well enough. Collectively is entirely another matter...
So anytime I go to see the amassesd in-laws, games are my requisite sanity tools. At a minimum comes my Lynx and emulator-laden laptop. Last Thanksgiving I brought the Dreamcast as well, and it turned out to be a big hit and a way to play games while maintaining the pretense of being sociable. I think Soul Calibur was on for nearly six hours. The only problem was keeping the brothers from crushing my beloved DC when the game fights invariably spilled over into the real world living room LOL
I get alot more enjoyment of showing my little cousins and nephews my video games, and playing games with them. It comes off as me just disassociating myself and being anti-social, but I like to play games with the kids.
Guns, trust me, you da man. If my in-laws ever get around to making me an uncle then, believe me, this will be my niche for all subsequent family gatherings. "Did Uncle Retrotaku bring his Atari this year?" You bet your ass he did, kid :D .

I always bring my handhelds to every family gathering, NGPC, GBA and Lynx. If they ask me to bring something else I'm usually happy to oblige. I was thinking about bringing my Sega CD or DC or something...

I don't have to b/c my dad has a PS2 already. (And I'm really hoping someone gets Simpson's Hit and Run, because Road Rage has already become a holiday fave.)
Plus, I'm getting my brother in law one of the Atari Joystick + Games things. I'm sure that'll get some play.
