Anybody play this demo on their MK:DD demo disc?

What did you think, good? No good?

Anybody know when it comes out(date)? Q1 04 is all i know of....

Anybody that hasn't played it, I recommend that you try to find somebody that has this disc and try it out. I really enjoyed it, It brings memories of Sonic back that I really missed. The SPEED, and if this doesn't bring Sonic back.....he's dead.

Played it. Hated it.

I really can't explain why though.

Odd seeing how I loved Sonic Adventure.

I was disappointed. It's basically yet another Sonic Adventure game, but with all three characters running in formation... it just doesn't feel right (Tails following you in Sonic 2 was better). Sonic Adventure was okay, but this just seems gimmicky.

The lame voice acting is really annoying too. Can Sega not tell how bad the voices are or something? I mean for crying out loud... they were lame on the Dreamcast, and they're still lame.

I don't understand why everyone always targets voice acting in modern games as such a big deal. Yes, it's part of the game, and if done well can certainly enhance the mood of the story. The problem is that voice acting complaints can be found in just about every game review done these days. Regardless of what game makers may be headed towards, these are still just games, not movies. The idea is to create an enjoyable game to play, not a cinematic masterpiece with Oscar winning voice work. Of course, you may feel differently, which is fine. My main concern is a game, not the voices in it.

And, I will agree that the characters in Sonic Adventure games have overly cartoony, squeaky, and goofy voices. But get this - they *are* goofy, squeaky cartoon characters. Who do you expect to be voicing Tails - Jean Claude Van Dam?

I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine, but voice acting seems to be taken too seriously in gaming today. More often than not, a fine game gets docked because reviewers don't like the voices. If they're that unbearable, then turn down the volume.

*Ahem* Sorry :)

It's a legitimate complaint, and I'm also wondering why Sega hasn't gotten smarter about this. If people really find the voice acting to be that bad (oh Shenmue...oh my GOD) it's more likely that person won't be picking up another game from the series, and may in fact start avoiding Sega games altogether.

Most of the time I could give a rats ass about voice acting...but when the game is MOSTLY voices it can be bad. Take for instance Shenmue as mentioned before...I loved the first game and despite the TERRIBLE TERRIBLE voice acting I kept playing it. Then the second game came out, which wasn't as good as the first one, very repetitive and too long. And the voice acting wen't from bad to downright annoying and horrid! Play it to see for yourself.

With games that don't have much voice acting, I don't care, Sonic never bothered me one bit. But Shunmue goes down in history as a great game with a awful voice. :(

Ah, I thought this game was boring as sin so early on that I never really formed an opinion on the voices. Since it's already come up twice, I'll take it as a good example where voice acting *is* important. Especially this is one of those "epic" cinema type games anyway. But in standard action games, I still don't think the voice acting should be considered as such a big deal.

From what I've heard, Sonic Heroes only breaks ground in one area... it's the first Sonic game that gives all the characters lovingly rendered buttcheeks.

Don't forget, this is Sonic Team on a non-Sega console. It's very likely they're aiming for gimicky to make cash.

In Sonic Heroes, the characters talk throughout the course of the game, so it's more annoying than just the cutscenes from Sonic Adventure.

Voice acting isn't SO big a deal... but it can really change the mood of a game. It's like having a movie with really bad casting so the actors don't fit their roles. When voice acting is done well, it can really enhance the game... if it's done badly, it hinders it (although voice acting alone won't turn a game "bad").

I can tell you this though... waiting through those cutscenes in Sonic Adventure was pretty excruciating.

At the risk of exciting certain excitable people, wasn't Sonic supposed to be a GC exclusive franchise? What happened there, or am I wrong in my understanding?

...and NOTHING will touch the voice acting in the House of The Dead series. I LOVE the voice actors there because they are so bad.

Well, a GameCube exclusive does not equal high sales like a PS2 version would, and no, I am not a 'Cube hater. Just being honest...

Shenmue 2 has bad voice acting? Which version are you playing, the Xbox one with English voice actors I assume?

I play the DC Euro one with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles, and I think it rocks.

Concerning Sonic Heroes, I'm as big a Sonic The Hedgehog fan as anyone, but this one hasn't won me over yet. I'll have to try it out (haven't seen the demo yet, but it has been mostly panned) to know for sure. But if the voices are as frequent and horrible as the demo is claimed to show, then that alone bumps the enjoyment factor down a notch.

I hate Sonic & gang talking. It looks and sounds stupid to me. When Sonic (In Sonic Adventure) calls Chaos "a big drip", my then 5-yr old kid thought it was cool, but I cringed.

I Played the demo and I Loved it! Especially the intro which reminded me a lot of the Sonic CD intro.

I'm a pretty hardcore sonic fan. I bought the dreamcast for sonic adv alone.

I later bought Sonic Adv 2 and then 1 for the GC. Once I played those games on the Cube, I thought they were complete CRAP. I got rid of both of em.

but Sonic heroes looks decent, the demo was a lot of fun, I always dig the Sonic tunes and the voice acting doesnt bother me.

2 things that I have a problem with.

1. They really shoudl focus a game on the SONIC TEAM alone (sonic, knuckles, tails). That was the problem with Sonic Adv 2, there was HARDLY any gameplay as Sonic!!! I think they should get rid of the Dark team, the amy team, the Chaotix team might be an okay keeper, but they really need to Focus on the sonic team.

2. One of the reasons that I couldnt stand sonic adv 1 & 2 on the cube was that there was this feeling that even though the game was on and I had the controller in my hand, it feels like I'm not actually playing the dam game! There are so many speed patches on the ground and rails slides and shit that make sonic act one way or another without the player really needing to do anything! This pissed me off, Sonic Heroes seemd to have a tiny tiny bit of this feeling in the demo, but it still looked cool.

Maybe I'll get heroes, but I think I might just stick to my Sonic Jam Saturn import. At least that has the sonic world game type arena thing which is the only thing released to actually come from the ill-fated Sonic X-treme.

That was kinda my thought too, but I'd like to know for sure if that's the case or not. Where's zmweasel when you need him? He always knows this kinda stuff. LOL
