Every system has a Holy Grail usually based on rarity. The chapionship carts for Nintendo. The Half Life proto / loaner for the Dreamcast.

What I would like to know is what is your personal Holy Grail? What game would you like to own that you don't already? It can be based on rarity or just the fact that you really enjoy the game.

Mine would be Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn. I had parts 1 and 2 a few years back and thought they were great games even though I didn't get to finish them.

My holy grail for now, are two pieces of hardware for the NES

1- The "NES Joystick Testing Box" that was used in the service center bakc in the day to test the joysticks on the NES.

I know the testing cart for this exist (it's in the DP Guide) but this piece of hardware must be ver hard ton find.

2- The "Hotseat Game Chair" (also in the DP Guide) if anybody apart me own this let me know. I seem i'm the only one right now who have this !

I know it's not that hard to find, but I'm cheap and I don't want to pay the asking prices. But, I've always wanted Tengen Tetris for NES, and the day I find it at the thrift store/flea market/garbage whatever, I'll be on Cloud 9 for weeks. :)

I even have the game on 2 of my 3 famicom pirate carts, but I want the actual cart. LOVE that game, best version of Tetris I've ever played.

StarFox Super Weekend more than Donkey Kong Competition but both will we pretty equally expensive to obtain. By the time I get both of these, I will probubly be done with collecting SNES games.

Also, Star Castle complete for Vectrex. Another expensive one but not as expensive as the other 2. And Polar Rescue complete, another expensive one.

i'm seriously going for gold here.

kizuna encounter for AES. i had a dream where i stole a factory sealed copy from snk headquarters and sold it for a million bucks.

Hrmmm, I'd have to say my holy grail would have to be every game treasure has developed in the box, along with Japanese imports on ones where the language/story isn't as important. Number one on that list is currently Ikaruga. Right now, I have Gunstar Heroes and Gunstar Heroes (Game Gear). Although my genny copy isn't boxed....

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy - SNES
Gunstar Heroes - Genesis
Ninja Gaiden III - NES

Why is Ninja Gaiden Trilogy selling for $90 on Amazon.com? Why is Ninja Gaiden III selling for $30 on Amazon.com? Those were common games back in the day. In fact, my sister and I received Ninja Gaiden III one Christmas. I liked the first two much better.

My wants vary depending on such variables as time, what I've been playing lately, ambient temperature, and what I had for lunch, but right now I think the prize goes to a boxed copy of Castlevania Dracula X for SNES. It's the only Castlevania game I haven't beaten.

A close second would be Suikoden I and II.

Ok i have been wanting to ask this for awhile as a collector i want to know what you would consider your holy grail, what is the one game, console or item that your collection needs or has it dosnt have to be rare just that one thing you must have or already have
for me it has to be a mint condition 100% complete copy of legend of zelda link to the past i had one but it was stolen when those nice people came and cleaned me out about 12 months ago, i have a colpy of it now but its not 100% complete and its far from mint.
so lets hear it ladies and gents im curious to hear what you have to say and who knows maybe we could find some of these gems

I'd have to go with my original release of Diddy Kong Racing for the N64. I received it as a late Christmas gift in January 1998 (Just a week after New Year's Day), and while it may not be in not that great of shape, it has remained the single most important part of my collection due to how many childhood memories it brings back whenever I play it.

I think the rarest item in my collection is my copy of FFVII. It may be a Greatest Hits copy, but it has this misprint on the inside labels with Sephiroth on both sides. Which I think is rarer then a regular GH copy. Though any good complete copy could fetch some good amounts.

Also of note is my gold cartridge of LOZ: Ocarina of Time and black label edition of Castlevania Symphony of the Night. While these aren't very rare (though I could be wrong) they're very cool in my opinon.

"I'm sure my copy of the GameStop collectors edition of FFXII will be worth something in about 20 years."

I think that the 'Holy Grail' of my collection would have to been the Magnavox Odyssey 2, which I have the box to with the original receipt from where my father bought it in 1981.

The 'Holy Grail' which I don't have, though, would have to be the original Magnavox Odyssey. I would love to find one of those for a decent price.

Right now there's a couple arcade games I've been having some trouble hunting down, namely the JPN release of Sorcer Striker, Kiki Kaikai (knight boy), etc.

I'm starting to regret not having paid what I thought was an extortionate price for Ninja Emaki when I found a copy; I think I might as well eat crow and buy it at the asking price because this game NEVER seems to show up.

Recently, a short-term "grail" was a complete JPN copy of the second Kiki Kaikai on Super Famicom, that showed up for $60, counting a second game in the auction as free. Good deal.

My holy grail would be an original Donkey Kong arcade machine in good condition.

Too bad that I can't afford one, and also don't have the space for it right now. (My "new" [that is, new-to-me], currently-in-restoration Neo-Geo MVS takes up the last bit of space in my room).

I know it's not really a video game, but I'd love to have a Star Trek:TNG pinball machine. I've wanted one of those ever since I first played it years ago.

If I had to pick a real video game, I'd say I want a Dungeons and Dragons: Tower of Doom arcade machine. My friends and I would play that game constantly at the arcades. That and Virtua Fighter 2. I know none of these games are very rare, but I'd much rather have one of them than some ultra rare game cart that I'd never play.

I ran across a Crash n' the Boys Ice Challenge proto before I got into serious collecting and found out what it was. I passed up on it, and have been kicking myself for not getting it ever since I found out what I missed out on. The ONLY proto I ever came across. I hope one day I can get another shot at it, since things tend to stay in circulation in the flea market circles...but probably not.

Also I have fond memories of playing The New Zealand Story on an arcade cabinet at a local mom and pop pizzaria when I was a kid. I'd like to eventually get a cabinet when I have the money and space for it.

Personally, my 'holy grail' changes every few months. I set out to find a certain game at a certain price locally and stick to it. Usually the games are next to impossible to find here despite the fact that they are widely available on the internet. Current titles are:

Pilotwings 64 (less than $10)
NHL 94 Sega CD (less than $7)

Strangely, these games are impossible to find locally at any price but seem to be dirt-common on the intertubes, so if I get desperate I'll pony up the 99c ;)
