View Full Version : I hate it when games do this!

So I pick up Castlevania for the N64 over the weekend, start a new game on the easy difficulty, and make my way through the game. As I'm advancing to the next level the game tells me that this is the end of the easy difficulty and that I need to restart on the normal difficulty. GAH! Why do games do this to me? I spent all that time making it that far, and now it wants me to go through it all again on a harder difficulty just to get farther in the game! x_x

Well, I sure hope that there isn't a third difficulty level...

What happened to games just getting harder as you play?

Most of the time they TELL you that -- like Ikaruga. But that might be a more modern thing, as Gradius III did the same thing and I don't think there's a mention of that.

In most cases, just in case, it's always best to play on Normal. :P

the street fighter games have been doing it for a wile
don't use high enough difficulty
dont see the ending
play with difficulty max
see cooler ending

yeah that does suck, I didn't know games did that. I usually never go below average or normal difficulty so I think I'm covered :)

I don't like it much when games do this myself, but I guess the developers want you to bring out your best gaming skills to truly beat the game. But when a game's freaking difficult, regardless of the settings, then that's just unfair. *coughStreetsofRage3cough*

My first game for PS1 was Twisted Metal II and I think it did the same thing. "Ah-ah! No post-first boss levels for you until you act like a man and ratchet up the difficulty a notch."

Needless to say I was a little :embarrassed:

Update, I blazed through the normal difficulty last night and all day today. Most of the game wasn't too hard considering I had already gone through half of it and remembered what to do and where to go. So I finished it, sat back and enjoyed the ending.

And then the message that I had unlocked the hard difficulty level appeared. O_O :eek 2: :(

Now I suppose I have to go through the whole game again just to satisfy my curiousity of what might happen at the end of this level. I've already tried it out and it seems the only thing that was changed is the enemies take more hits to kill. Fun fun....

All of the Twisted Metal games do that, they'll only let you get to the first boss on easy.

why start on easy? the fun begins on hard!

Bah. I remember when it did that to me back when I played the game quite a bit. I was sort of disgusted for about a minute and then I replayed the game in hard difficulty. It's really not much harder, actually, and it's well worth doing. I wonder why they put the Easy mode in but didn't let you complete it...besides the possibility they wanted to be bums.

I can never play anything on 'easy'. It just seems wrong. I'll usually start on Normal, and gradually ramp it up.

SOR3 was easy! Well, not as easy as 2, but it was easier than #1!
