The DP Vintage Random Oldie Game Ancient Generator (tm) has chosen its very first ASTROCADE game, and a fine choice at that! It's The Incredible Wizard, which is in all ways but its name the same as the arcade classic Wizard of Wor.

A fine choice, indeed! One of my favorite 2-player cooperative (heh heh) games of all time. Very tight controls, superb sound and graphics (compare this to the Atari 2600 version and you'll wonder why the Astrocade didn't blow the doors off of the VCS). And the gameplay... MAGNIFIQUE! I'll let my "slant speak the rest of my mind.

What's your opinion? We want to know.

DP Guide sez:

U.S. Game Releases
Incredible Wizard, The (Astrocade, by Astrocade Inc.) $8/R5 +
Designed by Bob Ogden. Based on the 1981 Midway "Wizard of Wor" coin-op. Action / Skills Series. 8K cart. 1982. PERIODICALS: Listed as one of the "99 Favorite Classics" by Digital Press in 1997. Named "Best Multi-Player Game of 1982" by Electronic Games Magazine. SANTULLI SLANT: The game that spawned the popular adage: 'Never Trust Santulli'. Watch your hapless 'partner' become points added to your score as you fire at his back and then again as his next guy re-enters the screen! Yeah, there's bad monsters too, but they're really no more than a distraction. Absolutely one of the greatest home games ever created for two players. A MUST. [Gr: 9, So: 10, Ga: 10, Ov: 10] #2017.

This game looks very familiar... but I can't quite put my finger on it...

You know, I obtained this game, box and all, a few months ago. I have yet to even crack it open, I've just been too busy. Now, I may just have to sit down and give it a try... and maybe invite my roomate in for a "friendly game", bwah hah...

Astrocade is one of two last classic systems I want (O1 is the other), and Incredible Wizard is the reason. Wor without the flicker.

It's a good game. The only thing that keeps it from being a perfect translation of the arcade game (aside from the dorky new name) are the chunky, chunky graphics. Everything else, however, is dead on, especially the music. It's been said that Bob Ogden, the creator of Wizard of Wor, also programmed the Astrocade version of the game. After playing The Incredible Wizard, I can certainly believe it.

Stellar game! Although I never knew it was a "cooperative game" until this very moment... ;)
