ok, im new and would like to start with a game or accesory with a little value. mainly NES stuff. and what i want to kno is, what should i try to get and what should i look for in certain items if i see them at like flea markets? thanks for any help.

You've already picked a system, now you just need to decide if condition and completeness matter to you. If loose carts are good enough for you, just start scouring your city and pick up any and all nes carts you see that are cheap. You'll have a decent collection in no time.

If you want complete NES games then make sure the game has a box, black sleeve, manual, styrofoam box filler, and if you want really complete the game may have come with an advertisement or white warning sheet. Unless you want to go nuts don't be too picky with the last two things. Usually those precautions booklets and ads were the same thing in many different games so you can always find a friend who'd give you some extras or something down the line.

Nes seems like where alot of people are starting out. Don't worry if a game has the styrofoam you can cut your own from styrofoam blocks:) I love that tip. Atari 2600 is a good place to start you can get alot of loose games from .50 to 2.00. If you get alot of loose Atari games pick up a wood cassete display case from walmart. It will hold 100 carts and fits nicely on the wall, I use that for my loose atari and genesis carts.

i may be new, but not dumb. it the NWC gold cart, about 25-30 made, and is worth around roughly $6000.(ive done my homework :) )

There are also those silverish/goldish Camerica games like Bee 52 that have switches on it.

Those are Famicom titles. Famicom is the Japanese equivilent of the NES.

There are also interactive media collectors who try to complete systems but only have their favorite games for each system. but I think everyone here strives to have at least one of every console and at least one complete collection of carts.

It really depend son your preferences too. For me I collect various games for systems, but I do have specific games I'm collecting for the NES.

An Atari crash course would be nice. I don't know too much about Atari and the only Atari system I have (and have ever had) is an Atari Lynx. Any useful information without having to read 100 pages would be nice.

Considering that I am down to my final 20 Nes carts for my set: here is a little advice.

1. If you havent already, get the digitpress guide. Its worth its weight in gold. Great info, and great to carry with you to flea marts.

2. A good deal for nes carts is 3-5 dollars at flea marts. Better to buy in bulk to save money.

3. As a collector, keep your eye out for black, gold, and baby blue carts. These are independant carts that are becomming harder to find. Companies like American Video Entertainment, Camerica, and Bunch Games to name a few.

4. Invest in a Top Loader and save yourself some headaches. The NES Top Loader(complete with is more comfortable controllers) is the way to go for playing your nes games.

5. Start with the Nes classics and work your way from there. I recommend Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Double Dragon, Ikari Warriors, Baseball Stars, Ice Hockey, Metroid, Super Mario Bros 3 to name a few.

It's the second version of the NES. Toploader as the carts are inserted into the top of the machine - no moving parts, which equals less failure in getting a game to work. I'm kinda tired, but fi you do a search for "nes toploader", "nes top loader", or "nes toploading/top loading", you'll be able to see what they look like.

Dr. Morbis's advice is great. Only thing I can add is to watch for large lots of eBay, with a great majority of games you want/need. You can often grab these at a nice $/game average. Even better, if an auction like that doesn't hit the reserve, it can't hurt to pick and choose and see if they bite. I did this, and managed 250 games, all of which I needed, at $2.75 each including shipping. Very nice.

Another tip is not to turn down pricey games at bottom prices. Final Fantasy at $1 can ALWAYS be resold to make your cash back, so why not? And who knows, it can be good for trading. In with this, never be afraid to turn down a good deal for ANY system. 30 complete nonsports SNES games for $20? Take it. Trade them for what you want, or resell them for money towards what you want.

Also, asking friends for their old unwanted stuff is GRATE, as they often will give it up for next to, or even free.

BTW, the auction is specifically for Famicom Disk System games, and the add-on for the Famicom. The FDS never saw the light of day in the U.S.
