Just out of curiosity, are there any real differences between the various Sega CD Bios versions? Do any games only work with a particular version or lock up with others? I assume the fixed tiny bugs as they went, but I've never heard anything about it.

just off the top of my head without doing any reaserch i can tell you that the Piggyback US sega cd has a 1.0 bio's in it and the side by side has a 1.10 I think.. The only differences in the two models that I know of is a different opening tune (the piggyback is cooler) and code for the mechanical tray open/close functions. Both have country code lockouts.

I've noticed that CD-R's of Sega CD games play better in the Piggyback. My Shining Force CD has an odd error while plaing on the side by side.. the voice audio repeats (someone will say "Come here!" but it will repeat like "Come herCome herCome here!"

There have been a few Sega CD that doesn't work properly. I remember a blurb in GamePro ...er LamePro that the first run of MK won't work on side loading CD system.
