its the real deal, sorta, its the army's virtual world/ game/ recruiting tool and its free! of course there are some weird issues with this sort of thing but hey with all the combat sims out there why shouldnt the army get some of the action? anyways has anybody played this thing, how is it?

wonder if the other service branches will try this tactic?

I downloaded and played it. I know a lot of people like it a lot, but I didn't much care for it, especially the fact that you had to pass "training" before being able to play online. There is a new one due out soon, special forces, which I am planning on looking into.

My favorite game of this genre is Ghost Recon. I had a friend recommend the army game when I told him that. It's okay, for free it's pretty dang good.

By the way, the first time around I just kept trying to shoot everybody on my team. That should stop any recruiters from calling for a while.

I've played it and had fun for awhile, but I prefer fast paced first person shooters and AA isn't one of them. Anyone into more tactical gameplay will probably like it quite a bit.

I think it's pretty cool that the Army is giving a game like that away for free, obviously for recruiting purposes. So I ordered a copy. It took forever to arrive but came as promised. Unfortunately the story of my life was being told at the time, i.e. - My PC wasn't up to the minimum system requirements (this is why I prefer to stick to console gaming, btw). So my copy of AA languishes in the drawer until I eventually get my next substandard PC upgrade.

Looks like a cool game, but I'm in no rush. Like my location says, I live on the back end of Moore's Law, and I live there by choice.

Somewhat related: The Marine Corps actually released a PC game of their own a few years ago called "Camp Marine". I've got a copy. It came in this container that looks like a circular ammo can. Pretty cool. It's basically a clone of Myst. You walk around this virtual Marine base solving puzzles as they relate to Marine Corps principles of courage, honor, etc. Anyone else played this?

Funny that the Marines would put out more of a "thinking game" whereas America's Army is mostly another FPS. One would be surprised to know that the Marines are as philosophical as they are about this stuff. :?

I generally don't like "real-world" FPSes (i.e. - Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc.)...and this one less than most, because it's propaganda.

What I want to see is the agriculture department come up with a game about cows or crops or something like that.

Let's see a game called Stable Boy! W00t! See how much sh*t you can shovel within a time limit! Or, better yet, create a game called Illegal Immigrant. Your task is to cross the border without getting caught by INS. You then get a job washing dishes, raking leaves or whatever without getting deported. The more money you send back to your family the more points you score! How about a game called Roman Slave? You're Deorius, a meek slave and your objective is to serve your master without getting beaten or sold to another master. One day you meet Sparticus and join his slave revolt against the Romans!

Yes, I know these are stupid game ideas but Calthear's got a good point. If the trend continues you'll be playing things on Video that you probably should do in real life instead. Someday they'll have a game called Shower where you take a virtual shower!

I tried it back when it was first realeased and I didn't really like it too much. I didn't like all the training. I never really liked Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6, so I guess those types of games aren't for me.
