I was in the Virgin Mega Store in NYC (times square) today hunting for some stuff for work (I work in that area), when I stumbled upon the bargain game bin and found Silpheed for PS2 for 10 bucks! I have Silpheed for Sega CD, but I havent read anything about THIS follow up. Then I noticed that Working Designs worked with Treasure on the title and I had to buy it. (big treasure fan).

so, is this a common price? I figure its a gen 1 PS2 game as the case is that dark blue ish purple color rather than straight up black.

I'd say so, considering that I got my PS2 Silpheed for only $5 this past summer at the big Office Depot video game sale. Great game!

Common? Yes. Uncommon? The fact that it's the most mediocre Treasure game I've ever played. Just generally bland, that's all.

Yeah, ten bucks seems to be about the going rate around here. And I didn't think Silpheed:TLP was a bad game.

Played it last night for all of a few minutes before I fell asleep, but I loved it! Well worth 10 bucks easy.

FYI, this was supposed to be a launch title, but ended up getting pushed back to February after the PS2 launched, IIRC. There was a big cover article about the game in one of the final issues of Gamers Republic.

There's also a bit of controversy over the extent of Treasure's involvement in this one. Some people refer to this as Treasure's game, something completely understandable given the way Working Designs made sure to play them up in the press and packaging surrounding this game. However, from all the interviews with people at Treasure I've read, it seems Game Arts had the lion's share of the game done and called Treasure in as a ringer for some design and graphic elements. Also they were pretty rushed, I think they had something like 4 months to do their work.

Pretty to look at (even now) but after that wears off, the blandness of the gameplay sets in.
