Well I just set up my wireless network, and finally played a few rounds of Crimson Skies online, it's damn fun stuff. I was surprised I got more kills than deaths my first couple games.

Anyone here use xbox live somewhat regularly? I want to battle some dp folks.

I'd love to play some people in Crimson Skies or CvS2. I have Mech Assault as well, but have only played it for a few minutes. Also thinking about picking up Counterstrike and PGR2 to play online soon.

I'm on Live almost every night. I don't play much Crimson Skies (in fact, I haven't even gone online with it yet) but you can add me to your friends list if you are looking for a game. Same goes for Capcom vs. SNK. Gamertag: Norkusa.

Heh, Butta, you're on my Friends list. Am I on yours?

I've been playing more PGR2 on Live than anything else, once I get better at Crimson Skies, I'll have to play you.

Games I've got:

CvS2
Counterstrike
Crimson Skies
Ghost Recon & Ghost Recon: Island Thunder
Midtown Madness 3
Moto GP 2
Project Gotham 2
Top Spin
Unreal Championship

I'm getting there.

I have the kit and have recently re-aquired a taste for Xbox (you can thank Knights of the Old Republic and D&D Heroes for that) so LIVE is just around the corner now. I hope to have my wireless set-up at home around the new year holiday so I'll be in touch with you soon after!

I've got the DSL and the Live kit, but I'm not planning to go online with it until SB:LOC releases in March, at which point I might also pick up MechAssault.

Yep, just checked, you're there.

I'm not very good at Crimson skies either, just played a couple rounds and got killed more than I killed others both times. It's still tremendous fun flying around in between building shooting down enemy planes.

I'll probably be playing that later tonight. For now gotta finish the Christmas shopping, which might include buying myself an xbox game. :)

Hey, Butta, how did you get Live to work with your wireless network?

buttasuperb

Microsoft sells an adaptor to plug into the xbox to receive wireless.

So does linksys.

Expensive, about $130 at the stores.

I got mine for $110 shipped off ebay.

Yo! Present! :D

I've got XBOX Live, and I'm really sure I'm getting Capcom vs. SNK 2 for Christmas. Maybe we could organize a game in the future... :)

I've Heard the Xbox adapter is a cinch to hook up, be careful with Linksys, they can be tricky to hook up, it took me about a week to hook up

I am SOOOO on the fence with this it ain't even funny. I want to play on it but it's hard to justify 70 bones for something I may NOT play. I'm afraid I'll find a game I like but no one to play with.

I may just get a LIVE game with the free 2 months and see if I can rent a headset or get one cheap.

Time will tell....

I know that when SvC 2 came out there was a problem with slowdown online. Has this been fixed, if so I may have to find a copy and join up with you guys. Other than that I spend lots of time with my old co-worker friends on Rainbow Six 3.

When I used to play lots of CvS2 online, I hardly ever noticed any lag. Maybe less than 10 times out of 600+ matches.

Anyways, I've been playing lots of Crimson Skies online, god damn this game is fun.

I just picked up Counterstrike, so I'll be playing that soon too. And I plan to pick up Project Gotham Racing 2 later today, along with a couple other xbox games.

I never thought the xbox would be my preferred console of the next gen stuff, but it is. I use my ps2 to watch movies much more than to play games.

I've been dying for there to be an updated list of people's xbox live names from the DP boards, since battling with randoms isn't all that fun. They are mostly 12 y/o's who say bitch too much.

DP, would it be out of place to have that as part of the collectors list or some other permanent place for xbox live names?

I wish there were a way to subscribe to a specific username list. It would be useful not only for us, but for colleges, schools, other groups to know when each other is online- it could have moderators like yahoo boards do or whatever. The only criteria to join one here would be to have posted on the 'who are you' thread.

anyway, I would enter everyone's names onto my list if there was a tidy list of names.

I don't use the account regularly, but I would if I had anyone to play against.

I have:
Midnight Club 2
Mechassault (or whatever)
Unreal Tournament
and a few others.

Should I get Crimson Skies ASAP? Or what should my next Xbox live game purchase be?

I would love to play D&D Heroes or some other hack n' slash like that online with some people... Not offered so far.

I would highly recommend it. Great fun in both 1 player and online modes.

Also I hear Counterstrike and Project Gotham Racing 2 are great online. I should be playing both online in the next day or so.

I agree we should set up something to know what DP peeps are on live and what there names are. Perhaps make a sticky thread for it?

Maybe if I can figure out how to make a message board for free, I can set up a mini board using my webspace so people from here or ng.com can post there live names and set up times to play.

I meant that groups should be formed through the xbox live service- friends groups and a network like that which is easy to load with that new feature that tells you when friends get online. It's more something the service should add.

We could easily post whatever info we need online here. Is there an online gaming forum?

Shame of the week: that latest Williams arcade compilation doesn't have Xbox live support. How kick ass would that be- two player classics online? When will MAME have online support :-P

Xbox live name: ianoid

Butta what's yours?

My ID is:

jaybird

if anyone wants to add me.

I mostly play sports games online (ESPN Basketball, Inside Drive, Top Spin).

If you guys haven't checked it out yet, grab Midway's Greatest Hits for $19.99. You can post your high scores online through Live.

Yeah, I was just fidgeting with the Xbox website- I guess I'll need my xbox to sign onto the web thing for the first time, but it may be easier than controller typing to get a list into your xbox together.

We could post a concise list and we may be able to cut and paste it into the website friends list.

A few things: Midway Collection isn't online is it? Or does it have high scores? That would be cool, too.

I just saw that Champions of Norrath will be a PS2 online thing. Should be like Baldur's Gate:DA online, which is what I've been wishing for.

Since I wasn't that into PSO, perhaps I can get into some adventuring groups with CoN instead?

Actually, it does have Live support. It's only for scoreboards, but it's still a nice feature to have considering most of the other classic comps that have come out won't even save your lousy scores to a memory card.

If anyone want's to add me to their friends list, be my guest. Gamertag is Norkusa. Got the following Live games:

Capcom vs. SNK 2
Crimson Skies
ESPN NHL
Ghost Recon: Island Thunder
Midtown Madness 3
MotoGP 2
Top Spin (we need to start a XSN Digital Press members tourney)
Outlaw Volleyball
Return To Castle Wolfenstein

I have a couple of questions for the people using wireless networks. Are you using 802.11g or 802.11b and do you know if it would make a difference gaming wise. I understand that g is faster for file transfers and stuff but it's pretty expensive. Basically all I need to do with my network is use the internet on my PC and play Xbox. So is b ok or do I need to shell out more money for g?

buttasuperb
12-27-2003, 03:09 AM
I have no idea about the b and g stuff, all I know is my router can handle both and so can the xbox adapter. Whether or not my internet connection takes full advantage of g or not, I'll never know.

Best buy has the linksys wireless g router with 4 ports, for 89.99 with 10 dollar rebate. Not bad at all, I was originally just gonna get a wireless access point to connect to my existing router, but since that was only 10 dollars cheaper, I figured I'd get the all in one.

Now who wants to die in Crimson Skies?

I just got my wireless network hooked up and I'm signed up for live. My name is the same as it is here: drexel923. I won't have the head set until tomorrow, but I'll be trying out some games tonight. Anywho, I'm gonna add you guys to my friends list...maybe we can play some time.

B/g doesn't matter, since the bottleneck will always be your internet connection.

If your g connection is truckin' along at 14mbit it doesn't matter if your cable/DSL is just at 1mbit. So getting b which might run at 56mbit+ won't make a difference either. The speed standard is much less important than your internet connection in general, unless you do alot on your own network.

Most of us don't, but I'm all jacked up to get someone to bring another (maybe a few) other Xboxes over for some networked play- or even play on some PCs.
