Cruising Nintendo's site when I found this:

To celebrate the best year in the 14-year history of the Game Boy video game system, Nintendo announces a new, limited-edition, two-tone version of the popular Game Boy Advance SP. These special models, launching on Feb. 9, will have Platinum bases with Onyx lids, for a silver-and-black look that's sleek and unique. These celebratory silver-and-black versions are only available in limited supply and are likely to quickly become collector's items. Be sure to visit your favorite retailer on Feb. 9 to grab yours (they'll have an MSRP of $99.99). While you're there, you might want to pick up a copy of the brand-new Metroid: Zero Mission, also slated for a Feb. 9 release, to inaugurate your new Onyx-Platinum GBA SP, or any of the other more than 1800 titles that are available for Game Boy Advance.

That's probably the ugliest one they've released yet, seems like a rush job thrown together from spare parts to me. Come on Nintendo? When are we going to see some clear colors or something? Don't tease us with this trash! The ONLY reason I'll buy a Nintendo product on Feb. 9th is because of Metroid, not your ugly-assed new SP.

I dunno, I'd rather have an onyx-platinum SP than a clear-cased one...hasn't the iMac lookie-here-there's-circuits-inside-this-gadget-w00t! thing run its course yet? LOL

No one should get sick of looking at circuitboards in their machines. My MegaDrive/MegaCD modification features fully visible PCBs. But that is a tale for another day. ;)

Dont mean to be an ass, but perhaps a link to a site with a picture of said GBA SP would help.

It's just a gimmick to shift more GBA SP units, probably most of the people buying these so called "limited edition" units will already own GBA SP's.

I'm fine with my blue GBA SP (incidentally, my GBC was atomic purple, my first GBA was Glacier and my GCN is indigo), even though I also like the Flame one too. But I wouldn't buy a second SP unit just because it's a different color than mine, at least not for quite a while.

oooooh yea that's really ugly :o
I'd much rather see them release the Famicom anniversary edition over here

God... couldn't Nintendo at least put 2 colors that match together? Like blue and red?

I don't know if these pics will work, but here they are:

And, no PDF, clear shells on electronics has definitely not gotten old! I can't imagine a DC any other way now that mine is in a clear lime green shell! Of couse, I'd rather have a diarrhea brown gba sp with chunks of corn painted on it than that new one...reminds me of those shitty cars you see going down the road with the hood and/or door primered and the rest of the car one color.[/img]

I don't think it looks bad at all, reminds me of a Converse hightop I had once. Though I'd prefer it if they made the gameboy out of actual metal / aluminum instead of plastic. Has anyone ever had bad experiences with the platinum flaking off where it's rubbed extensively?

That's the best Nintendo could come up with? A child could do that.

yea, the least they could have done was make the inside all one color & the outside all one color...not half & half like that

I like it. Looks less 'kiddie' than most of the SP colours IMO.

Nintendo should release a limited edition replica of the original Game Boy, that plays N64 cartridges. Have it lock into a more complex controller, and you're set.

Sorry, just dreaming....

While I actually think the new GBA SP isn't that bad (especially compared to the cheap looking gold one), I have to laugh at the car bit because a friend of mine from high school had (probably still has) a car from the early 70's like that; blue with brown/orange doors >)

That would have been a lot better than 1/2 and 1/2. I don't think it looks that bad, I won't buy one because I already have platinum GBA & GBASPs. Nintendo could have defenitely done a much better job though. Releasing the Famicom colored version here would have been a much better idea.

This site has it on their homepage as coming soon, so maybe they will get them in and you will be able to get it. I would say just keep checking or send them an e-mail. I have never dealt with them, so I don't know how good they are though.

There were only 100 released ina contest. SO I will be shocked if A tehy get it in, B its under 500 bucks. Sadly enough 500 is my max price I would pay for that. And I would be in heavy debt. :(

Yea, I didn't really know too much about it. You can always watch that site though. Maybe they will get some in. If there were only 100 it will probably be unlikely that they do get some in.

That total is actually 1,000. Still a low figure, mostly because Nintendo decided that the Famicom style decals should be applied by hand.

If that online store actually does get some it wouldn't be much of a stretch to command 250-500. They have to be getting them somehow and probably pay an incentive to the winners willing to part with them. I wouldn't bother because it's likely they've already been asked to death about pre-orders.

Do any collectors really get excited over this sort of thing?

I kinda wanted the black/red Boktai one, but I don't like this one as much. It's not BAD, but I'm happy with my metallic blue one! :)

RE: The Famicom SP's, they go on Yahoo Japan for around $700 U.S.

And to whoever said that the Famicom version is better looking than this one...are you shitting me? That thing is quite possibly the ugliest portable ever made. It's got a face only nostalgic folks like us could love.
