Maybe I'm wrong here, but has Nintendo put a stranglehold on the Gamecube component cable market or what? After searching for about 30 minutes for component cables for the GCN, all I could find was Nintendo's brand. That's not what irks me, I'd gladly buy a set...if they weren't shipping a damn month from now due to being backordered. The only pair in stock I can find are from Lik-Sang and then I have to pay shipping from Hong Kong. If you can't supply something alone, license third parties to help out, hey it worked for Sony (see: Mad Catz and Nyko licensed memory cards) when they were having shortages. Oh well, it's not the first, and certainly won't be the last time they've done something I don't agree with and pisses me off.

Can't you find any on Amazon or EBay? Maybe for cheaper then the $30 the website wants? :) And I KNOW I've seen them at Best Buy and EB before.....

Yeah, what's their problem with the component cables? The Gamecube has great support for progressive scan, but it's not like we'll see much of it without the damned cables.

I tried Amazon and Ebay. I asked at Gamestop and the register-zombie pointed to the Gamecube stuff and said "they should be over there!" Dumbass. I'd already looked, I asked to see if he had any in the back. I may end up doing the Lik-Sang order once I get the money....it just sucks that things like this and the headphone adapter Nintendo doesn't even ship out to stores...

This reminds me of something else. Remember trying to get a Gameboy Pocket link cable before the advent of Pokemon? That was an exercise in futility.

I never saw Nintendos component cable in any store. I got it from their website a couple of months ago.

I don't know what's behind all that, maybe license deals, maybe N wants to make some profit by restricting third party cables (after all, the offered component cable is well overpriced), and I don't know why Mosntercable decided to offer only a S-video cable for the GC.

One thing is for sure, Sony and Microsoft are much better providing electronic accessories for their systems than N.

Just to complain, they don't even pack the damn cables when they send em :(

They just throw it in an envelope and ship it to your house, no packing or anything

thats because there just cables, im sure an envelope isnt going to harm them in any way shape or form.

I don't know? An envelope once assaulted my Uncle pretty badly. He got mad, and started biting it. He ripped it to shreds, and it just so happened that some GCN Component Video Cables were inside & he wound up chomping them in half. @_@

I've only heard of the component cable being available through Nintendo in the US actually. And the ones in Hong Kong are backordered a lot because people use them to create the hacked RGB cable for us Europeans with import consoles :P

30 minutes? I've been searching for NON-nintendo brand component cables for about 1.5 years now.

Last night K-Mart had some free Nintendo catalogs. Very nice looking catalogs, I might add. Anyway I paged through it and landed on an accessories page. The list the component cable but after the description it said something like "only available direct from Nintendo" or something like that. So basically you have to order them through the Big N.

Now I understand certain things being limited or maybe only available from the original manufacturer but it's usually some very funky or possibly not going to see widespread use (the DC broadband adapter comes to mind). With more and more TVs having component capability why NOT sell the cables in stores?

Nintendo, sometimes I can never figure you out.

The thing about the Component video cables is that they have an IC that converts the signal to an analog component signal.

That's probably the reason 3rd party companies are having trouble making these cables, unlike the PS2 component cables that are just well....cables; they have no ICs inside.

Ah, so they connect to that weird digital output?

People shouldn't dog on Nintendo THAT bad, I mean......for quite some time it's been known that they are the only people with the component cables for their system. You did wait til the last minute, at christmas no less. While that doesn't completely justify alot of the things N does, It is a bare fact.

While I'll try to keep my fending for N to a minimum, I think people do alot of complaining about them. Would you rather have this just system with all sorts of games and 3rd party accessories flowing out every crack of the gaming industry. And by junk, i'm talking about the quality in the design, nothing to do with gameplay. Or would you have a system that you can bet your ass will turn on every day, with less games(usually leaving out alot of the 3rd party junk, IMO) for alot less money and have to find some of the accessories at a more expensive price?

Like I said, I'm not coming here to be a fanboy or anything. Just providing outlook that every other company has faulty ideas too. And N has pissed me off many times too(online gaming) so i'm not saying love Nintendo. But it sure ticks me off how I have to deal with all of my friends when their PS2 starts sounding like a paper shredder......and ends up breaking.

A friend and I were discussing this exact issue .. she told me that ONLY Nintendo is licensed to make these cables, if anyone else does, they violate laws. Also, the 3rd-party cables reportedly produce horrible picture quality, around Composite. She used for comparison Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle running on a Dreamcast and GC both with Component leads .. the Dreamcast won the comparison with flying colors..

Just my 2 cents. Or 3, depending on the present exchange rate.

I'm very lost here, you say 3rd party isn't good. Then you say the Gamecube's component cable is bad, meaning that the first party cable is bad........so overall you're saying not to buy component cables for the cube? Could be what you're saying........could be the opposite, I really don't know. LOL

He's saying that component cables not made by Nintendo ARE available, but that they suck.

Just to get a little air cleared up, Nintendo isn't stopping anyone from making component cable, it's just that no one is. Don't know why.

the only nintendo thing i own now is a gba. but i remember that the N64 cables were compatable with the SNES.

::remember, i don't have gamecube::

is the connection the same for the gamecube, N64 and SNES? just a thought.

nesuser2

yes, but the cube also has a digital output. And I would imagine that, that's what the component cables use. Did they ever create component SNES/N64 cables?

depending on how much you want to pay, it appears that The Rage has them. I've ordered from them before & they are pretty fast.

Christ on a crutch!!!! $46 dollars? I just want some cables, not to bend over and have them assault me from behind for them. I'll wait and get them from Nintendo or even Lik-Sang (who, it is worth mentioning, ships from Hong FUCKING Kong and is STILL cheaper). These ol' S-vid's will have to do for the moment, there's no way I'm dropping a $50 for the damn things at the moment.
