(I've been posting on other forums for years, but now I am starting to realize I get better answers here!)
Anyway,
I am considering a new television. I am worried about screen burn and games. Does anyone here have a Plasma, flat screen, LCD, or projector tv? What can you tell me about screen burn with these models?
I have heard that the sony plasma screens are prone to burn with images left on for longer than a 30 seconds! :hmm:
Then there is always projecting onto a wall...

There is no TV on the planet that you will ever find that has burn in after 30 seconds. Period.

That would be a good website to ask about TV specific questions.
Frankly, I've had a RPTV for over a year now, and I don't play any one game long enough to worry about it. General rule is:
If a fixed image is on your screen for more than 25% of the TV Viewing time, you risk burn-in.
That means as long as you're playing a different game or watching TV for more than 75% of the time the TV is on, no problem.

I didn't think screen burn was that much of a worry anymore.....I mean, it can still happen, But it's a long shot, or it happens less frequent?

I've been hearing lately that the new flat screen tech has brought back the risk of screen burn. The LCD flats in particular.

I've heard just the opposite, that LCD screens are at a much lower risk for burn in. Considering how long computer LCD monitors are left on with the start bar viewable, and how little burn in they receive after all that abuse makes me think that LCD TVs will be fine.
Besides, consider that burn in is really only an issue if you're playing games with a static image in one spot for hours at a time. Most games nowadays don't have anything like that, and the ones that do (like FPS games and racers) usually change screens every 4 or 5 minutes when a cut scene or menu appears.

According to Dabs.com, "LCD Screens are immune from screen burn."

Plasma is subject to screen burn, but no more or less than conventional televisions from what I have read.

I have a 32" WEGA that has some minor black burn-in after I accidently left Arc the Lad on overnight. As far as WEGA's are concerned, I'm pretty sure from that experience that 6 hours with a static screen is enough. :(
