View Full Version : Eye Toy - WTF?!?

OK, I got an eye toy. The lighting requirements for this are just plain STUPID.
Can anyone else help me out here? I managed to set it as a dim room, I turned 3 overhead light towards my body, changed the 25 watt bulbs I had to 60 watt bulbs. STILL WAYYYY to dark.
Not only this, but since I changed the lights, it's lighting up the background too. There SHOULD be a warning on the package somewhere that you need proffesional fuckin spolights that light up only a foot square foot section of existence so you can actually PLAY this thing.
Bah, I guess I'll wait till an obnoxiosuly sunny day, open all the windows, blast the lights, and spraypaint the wall behind me black. Sigh.

3 100W Lights, Heat Lamps, etc..? This thing is annoying as fuck, being here for over 7 Months (It got released here in .AU First). I've seen one being used in 200W lighting, but I'd say thats the minimum.

That's fucking stupid, especially since it SHOWS them using it in front of a white screen, which would actually be impossible. I love sony, but I hope they catch HOLY HELL for this. I'm really PISSED OFF.
Come to think of it, a videogame item hasn't ever pissed me off this much before, EVER. And I bought a Jaguar on release day. And a power glove.

Can't wait to see the returns and possibly lawsuits on this one...

I was going to ask for one of those, but I ended up deciding that it seemed like too much of a waste of money. It really is a neat idea, but all of the games look the same to me. Now, I'm glad I didn't get it.

I just wanted it as a quirky kinda cool thing that could possibly be rare in the future, and the kids might like it. But the fact that it's a first party item, and they advertised it as much as they did just really sucks. I don't feel really let down very often, but this really was done poorly, to say the least.

I also got this for X-Mas and I can't say enough good things about it. I plugged it right in and had no problems with lighting ( I DID NOT even have my window blinds open and had no lights on, just the sunlight coming through the blinds.) Maybe you got a messed up camera or something, because mine works fine and it is a lot of fun. I recommend that anyone get this game. I thought it was only for little kids, but boy I was dead wrong. Anyone can have fun with this one. And it has a multiplayer option (Didn't try it yet, but it should also be fun.) My dad who is awful at any video games even tried it and got a higher score than me on the one game. Pick this one up when you can.

<shrug< suppose it's just my living room then. It's a cloudy/rainy/foggy day, I have very low watt ceiling lights (9 of them, 25-40 watts each in a large living room) My living room is really setup more for a home theater type of setting. I guess I'll try it again on a sunny day.
Still. Just the fact that they show everyone in front of a white screen, which would be impossible in itself since your background MUST be darker than your body, is too much lying for my taste.

I have had mine a month or so and I found sunlight to work best becuase I only have 1 light in my room so I just am a shadow .I have played in in game stores and I show up perfect. It might be you need brighter more even light.
Me=Bald + Overhead light = Easy Soccer Ball gameplay :D
We'll have fun with it...

Well, the shittiest products usually turn out to be the rarest so hopefully you got what you were looking for.

Edit, I have seen people using the eye toy in rooms in the daytime, with the sun coming in the windows, but I couldn't imagine having to set up ligting just to use the thing.

The few times I've used an Eye-Toy, it's been simply with normal light and no special background of any kind. Worked great. My main TV is front projection, though, so no go on the Eye Toy or lightguns for me, alas.

This is weird that people are having all these problems with it. Like I said above, I did nothing special, just the light coming through closed blinds and it worked fine. I also tried it again tonight with just one light on in the room and it still worked fine and the picture was bright.

Don't know what to say holly, but you have a bright room. Noone else on this or 2 other message boards I've tried has had an easy time with lighting, either that or you're very unpicky when it comes to the picture it's giving you on the TV.
I had it working good when I had the 2 60W bulbs pointed at me, it had great reaction time, but the picture SUCKED.
Front projection TV - you'd have no problem with the Eye toy. Just put the camera facing you 5-10 feet away, it doesn't rely on the TV at all, just the camera.

Forgot to say that my camera was on top of my 53" rear proj. hdtv .so it was pointed strait at me.It says you can put the itoy on the floor and aim it up at you .Have you tried that?

Approximately all the money in the world, if my figures are correct.
God, old games must look like shit on that.

Sylent....the problem with front projection is that I need the lights off to get the good picture, therefore the camera probably wouldn't work too well :-). For lightguns, though, the problem is the nature of the TV.

I plan on getting this when the new game rooms done (if it ever gets done) but not if there is lighting problems. Cause there isn't going to be any windows in the new room. :o
