There is a tactfully written and subtle piece on the Nokia N-Gage at Gamespy.com, found here:

http://www.gamespy.com/articles/december03/ngagevirtues/

...I lied. It's not very subtle or tactfully written; in fact, it's the blatant result of a payoff mated to some fanboy's ranting. The author, Justin "Violent" Lee, is thankfully not a name I recognize, and I'm not about to traipse off to Penny-Arcade with a love letter and a "I was wrong about you guys after all" as a result of that.

Now I don't have to go on about the article -- the style of its writing speaks for itself, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is paid content on Gamespy.com after all.

What I am concerned about is the apparent deletion of a discussion thread at GameSpy Forums which criticized this article. The criticism of that topic's deletion may be found (as I write this) here:

http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy/topic.asp?fid=1897&tid=1248367

This is an unfortunate eye-opener, and I hope that unless GameSpy sees fit to rectify or make amends that this fiasco becomes a (much deserved) black eye for them this Christmas.

One of the editors for Game Informer is named Justin and he uses the name Justin Lee as his wrestling name (he wrestles for a couple of indy prootions in the area). Hmmm

Nokia just needs to give it up. No matter how many professional writers they bribe, no matter how many commercials they run, and no matter how much they drop the price, nobody wants an N-Gage. Nobody.

I was going to show Nokia a little mercy after playing the N-Gage and being reasonably impressed with one of its games (Pandemonium), but after this pathetic display, it gets nothing but hatred from me. The arrogance displayed by Nokia makes me sick... they think they can just buy their way into the video game industry, but it takes a lot more than tenacious marketing to get a piece of this pie.

As for the writer of that article, I hope he gets used to curling his lips into the dick-sucking position. He'll need that skill once he loses his credibility as a journalist and is forced to work the streets as a male prostitute (who am I kidding? Most of the guys at GameSpy are just big whores anyway).

(Note - The topic hasn't been deleted. It was just moved to the Feedback section - BangBang)

That article was amusingly bad. I really hope it's not written by the same Justin of GI, as if my memory serves I quite enjoyed some of his articles in that mag. I think it's funny that either a. they were bought off (most likely) or b. there really is an N-Gage fanboy running loose. I thought it would have been under fanboy standards (but then, I guess some people found the Game.com fun too... no wait, nevermind).

Where did *this* sweeping generalization come from?

The usual sources... frustration, anger, and disgust stemming from both this article and GameSpy's decision to merge with IGN. GameSpy's hosted sites have gone downhill in a big way over the past two years... I used to love ClassicGaming.com, but now, I visit it only when I absolutely must.

If you write for these guys, I'll make an exception in your case. It's not like you're shoving N-Gages and McGriddle sandwiches down anyone's throat.

CG.com Has went down over the years, from those horrible flying helicopter ads to lack of updates...

What's the good word down at Penny Arcade?

Indeed.
